RESEARCH ANALYST
Every Voice Center is focused on transforming our political system into one that represents everyday people, not big donors. Our staff carry out this mission through cutting-edge policy analysis, research into the influence of money in the policy-making process, public education, and coalition building. We're building the political power necessary to create a democracy that's truly of, by, and for the people. We partner closely with Every Voice, a 501(c)4, to advance small-donor driven elections at the federal, state, and local levels. We are a fun, dynamic, and innovative staff who come from all sectors of public service in the interest of strengthening our democracy.
We are looking for a Research Analyst with a blend of research, writing, data, and policy analysis skills, who can take on a range of projects. This position requires a resourceful, tech-savvy individual who can think flexibly, learn new skills as needed, and apply sound judgment, whether working with numbers and policy provisions or communicating information in clear and impactful ways to diverse audiences. We seek candidates who thrive in collaborative team environments and will take on higher levels of responsibility and leadership over time. The Research Analyst will work under the supervision of the Research Director, though he or she will also work closely with other staff including, but not limited, to the Communications Director, Political Director and policy team.
Responsibilities
- Conduct follow-the-money, investigative, and oppositional research to support policy, issue, and electoral campaigns, often in collaboration with allies.
- Write and assist in the production of research resources and in-depth reports.
- Respond rapidly to media opportunities through quick research and writing, including blog posts, and assist with other day-to-day communications work, as needed.
- Analyze policies and large data sets, including Census demographic data, to produce written products that support policy development or communication goals.
- Manage voter file and political data to assist in electoral targeting, as needed.
- Participate in the planning and development of campaigns and research projects, including identifying opportunities and taking the lead in driving projects.
Required Qualifications
- At least three years of work experience in research and policy roles that include quantitative analysis.
- Strong data management and analysis skills, including experience with large data sets, Excel, and relational databases.
- Strong writing and communication skills.
- Attention to detail.
- Flexibility in problem-solving and proven ability to exercise sound judgment in the workplace.
- Ability to manage several tasks or projects concurrently and prioritize work effectively, including in fast-paced environments.
- Commitment to social, economic, and racial justice.
Desired Qualifications
- Experience interpreting legislative or legal language and performing academic literature reviews.
- Familiarity with data visualization and mapping tools.
- Familiarity with online electoral tools such as VAN and Catalist.
- An understanding of the progressive community, including nonprofit, advocacy, and labor organizations.
- Ability to build strong relationships inside and outside the organization.
Job Details
Salary is commensurate with experience. A generous benefits package is offered. Position is full-time and based in the organization's Washington, D.C. office. Some travel required.
