Reports to: Managing Director

Global Financial Integrity (GFI) seeks a motivated, highly adaptive, and experienced Communications Director to lead its communications team. The position is charged with crafting and implementing a strategic communications plan to advance GFI's advocacy efforts to curtail illicit financial flows, raise the profile of the organization, and promote GFI's research in the media.  The Communications Director will be responsible for managing the Communications Associate and all communications interns, and s/he will work with the her/his team to broadcast the GFI's message through a variety of channels, including traditional media, new and social media, and GFI's website. The position is based at GFI's headquarters in Washington, DC.

Responsibilities:

· Develop and implement, in consultation with the Managing Director, the overall communications strategy of the organization;

· Manage communications staff and interns;

· Serve as primary point-of-contact for all press inquiries;

· Build and maintain strong relationships with key journalists at the world's leading news outlets;

· Author, draft, and/or edit op-eds, press releases, blog posts, talking points, and other strategic communications;

· Strategically place op-eds in key publications;

· Organize and prepare GFI staff for interviews with TV, radio, print, and online news outlets from around the world.

· Organize the public roll-out of all GFI reports and research—including through organizing press conferences both in the U.S. and abroad;

· Represent the organization at various events and in high level meetings, both domestically and abroad, when needed;

· Work constructively in collaboration with partners in various coalitions of which GFI is a member—especially with the Financial Accountability and Corporate Transparency (FACT) Coalition and the Financial Transparency Coalition (FTC).

· Work with the Communications Associate to manage the gfintegrity.org website using WordPress;

· Work with the Communications Associate to manage GFI's social media presence, including Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, and Reddit;

· Work with the Communications Associate to build and maintain email contact lists for press;

· Work with the Communications Associate to design and send mass email, including press releases, announcements, and actions;

· Other responsibilities as required.

Required Qualifications:

· Bachelors degree in a related field;

· 5+ years of experience in strategic political communication, with a proven track record of success in using communications to further an organizations strategic communications and advocacy objectives;

· Extensive experience in managing websites and using social media as an advocacy tool, particularly Twitter;

· Highly advanced persuasive writing capabilities in English;

· Excellent editing and copy-editing skills;

· Excellent general ability to learn and utilize information technology skills;

· Ability to organize and facilitate events, meetings, and workshop sessions, including the ability to handle the logistical aspects of such events;

· Experience creating web content using Wordpress;

· Familiarity with a CRM (Convio, Salsa, Blue State Digital, etc) and with a CMS (Joomla, Drupal, Wordpress, etc);

· Team player with excellent interpersonal skills, who can work in a fast-paced environment and juggle multiple demands;

· Intellectual curiosity;

· Ability to travel to foreign countries on an occasional basis;

· Candidates must be legally able to work in the U.S. without employer sponsorship.

Desired Qualifications:

· Fluency in other languages (particularly Spanish, French, and/or Portuguese) is an advantage;

· Proficiency with Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator;

· Experience working on political campaigns or with issues involving anti-corruption, financial transparency, financial crime, global development, human rights, international finance, international institutions, and/or trade a plus.
