Looking for passionate and experienced organizers to join a large-scale City initiative that aims to protect affordable housing throughout New York City by providing direct support to tenants.
Successful candidates should have at least one year of community, issue, labor or political organizing experience, excellent communications and outreach skills, and strong interest in housing/urban issues. The candidate should have demonstrated an ability to recruit and engage volunteers, closely tracking metrics and outcomes, and some knowledge with and/or relationship with key community groups across New York City.
The organizers responsibility will include, but not limited to:
- Reach out and manage relationships with tenants;
- Maintain ongoing reporting and communication with Borough Lead;
- Recruit and engage volunteers, develop volunteer leaders and ensure active participation in grassroots activities;
- Account for organizing goals and reaching weekly goals via performance reviews;
- Organize events such as: neighborhood meetings, media events, community outreach, etc.;
- Engage in extensive outreach including phone banking, canvassing, and other tactics;
- Create individualized turf plans for their areas, mapping out key community partners and interest groups.
Qualifications:
- Enthusiasm and a commitment to building affordable housing in New York City;
- 1 year of community, issue, labor, or political organizing;
- Strong written and oral communication skills in English; Spanish a PLUS;
- Ability to prioritize and effectively manage multiple tasks in a fast paced work environment;
- Willingness to learn, adapt and be a problem solver;
Compensation: Commensurate with experience and qualifications. Includes benefits.
