Digital Strategies Intern - Washington D.C.


UFCW is seeking a Digital Strategies Intern to implement the Communications Department's digital communications projects to build online audience engagement for UFCW's public policy initiatives, UFCW member campaigns and organizing programs as assigned by Director or Assistant Director – Digital Strategies.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assists and supports the department's digital strategies in support of organizing, collective bargaining and political campaigns.
  • Monitors and updates social media platforms, updates, and develops creative ways to effectively support campaigns.
  • Writes and edits accurate and timely communications materials and graphics, under supervision.
  • Compiles reports on email campaign analytics.
  • Provides campaign-related content for other UFCW websites.
  • Assists in new media channels of communication including, blogs, databases and recommends any necessary programming changes.
  • Assists in the research and preparation of data needed for UFCW communications materials.
  • Interviews members, local leaders, and International Officers as required for UFCW communications materials.
  • Assists with the preparation of technical training on UFCW web sites, e-mail programs, media databases or other communications support vehicles.
  • Assists with the preparation of communications training for staff, local leaders, and members.
  • Ability to write and develop basic communications materials in Spanish is a plus, but not required.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline or currently enrolled in a university-level course of study in communications. Equivalent experience may be substituted. Minimum of one year experience in writing, editing and working on the web.
  • Able to write, prepare and edit in a creative and clear manner under direct supervision.
  • Good oral communication skills.
  • Good listening and interpersonal skills.
  • Familiarity with Photo Shop and other graphic editing tools.
  • Understands the principles and practices of communications.
  • Familiarity with principles of the labor movement is desired, but not required.

Compensation: $15 per hour.

Duration: Up to six (6) months. Posting closes when position is filled.
