Clean Water Action and Clean Water Fund are seeking a Director of Finance to oversee the operations of its centralized Financial Center. Clean Water Action is a national, grassroots environmental organization that works to protect the environment and safeguard public health, promote passage of strong environmental laws, and help communities address local environmental problems affecting them. Clean Water Fund is a national research and education organization which promotes the public interest on issues related to water, waste, and toxics. The organizations have a combined budget of $15 million and the Financial Center has a staff of seven FTE's.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Director of Finance is accountable for the financial and human resources management of our national corporations. This includes the day-to-day management of all staff within the Department. The Director of Finance reports to the National Managing Director.
The Director of Finance will:
· Prepare bi-weekly cash management plans;
· Ensure the corporations are in compliance will all federal, state, and local tax, registration and legal requirements;
· Provide information and track monthly budget to actual performance;
· Maintain the fixed assets and key liability accounts;
· Prepare and review grant and contract income and expense compliance;
· Ensure proper allocation of expenses to various corporations and review and collect on the accounts receivable and manage the accounts payable.
· Track and manage the corporations insurance portfolio;
· Coordinate the annual employee benefit enrollment program, monitor expenses, and provide recommendations on how to control costs;
· Provide financial information to states/departments upon request;
· Maintain the operational handbooks including the Financial and Administrative Manual, the Non-Canvass Employee Handbook, and Canvass Handbook to ensure the corporations are in legal compliance and update organizational policy changes;
· Develop expertise in Raiser's Edge data management system;
· Maintain relations with the auditors and prepare the financial team for the annual audits;
· Hire, train and supervise the staff in the Financial Department.
QUALIFICATIONS:
· Minimum of a Master's Degree in Accounting, Business Administration or Finance. Certified Public Account preferred.
· Eight or more years of senior management accounting experience working for a nonprofit corporation.
· Grants and Contracts management experience;
· High level of written and oral communication skills;
- Well organized and able to manage multiple projects at one time;
- Experience in audit preparation;
- Staff management and supervision experience;
- Solid computer skills (e.g., Excel, Word, Internet)
