POSITION AVAILABLE: Executive Director – Position located in Georgia
REPORTS TO: Vice President, State Operations
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The Executive Director will implement grassroots organizing, coalition-building, communications, advocacy, and fundraising strategies to build support for the Common Cause agenda at the state and national level and build a strong organization in Georgia.
RESPONSIBILITIES: This position includes duties in the areas of organizing, outreach, communications, advocacy, and fundraising:
- Communicate with the public and members across the state, through the media, social media, direct mail, and other means.
- Coordinate state membership activities and expand membership in the state by attracting new members from diverse constituencies to the organization.
- Build and participate in effective, diverse political coalitions.
- Develop and execute lobbying strategies to hold federal, state and local elected officials and other decision-makers accountable.
- Produce timely, high quality policy research.
- Work with the Georgia state advisory board and engage them in the organization's work.
- Work to expand its membership and capacity.
- Raise money from foundations, major donors and other fundraising strategies, to fund programs.
- Manage the state chapter's operations, including development and management of state budget and supervision of other state staff.
- Recruit, train and supervise volunteers and interns, and staff.
- Serve as liaison to the national office; participate in national staff meetings, programs and activities as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS: The successful candidate will demonstrate the following skills and abilities:
- Strong experience in non-profit advocacy and organizing work.
- Demonstrated leadership and organizing ability including board development.
- Excellent written and oral communications skills.
- Demonstrated experience working with the traditional and new media.
- Strong fundraising skills and willingness to work on fundraising activities.
- Familiarity with Georgia political landscape and the state legislative process.
- Experience and passion for the Common Cause agenda and mission.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently in a deadline driven environment with competing priorities.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse communities and to build alliance among diverse stakeholders.
- Strong positive energy and strong interpersonal skills.
- Willingness to travel; and flexibility to work evenings and weekends.
- Working knowledge of social media tools including Facebook and Twitter.
- Able to adhere and protect Common Cause's nonpartisan values.
