Job Posting: Detroit Environmental Justice Organizer

Michigan United is a statewide coalition of faith, labor, civil rights, business, and social service organizations working together for racial and economic justice through community organizing.
Michigan United is seeking dedicated staff to oversee community engagement and organizing on our environmental and climate justice work in Detroit and the surrounding areas. This includes:
Building the leadership of local community members on environmental and climate justice issues through training, workshops, and work groups;
Organizing community members to ensure the State of Michigan's implementation of the Clean Power Plan (CPP) includes policies that promote racial and economic justice;
Holding the Michigan Agency for Energy accountable for a robust public input process and ensuring the voices of low-income communities and communities of color are heard during this process;
Coordinating campaign work with state and national coalitions;
The Organizer must:
Have prior experience in community, environmental, or political organizing.
Have reliable transportation. (American-made cars are strongly encouraged).
Be comfortable working with a culturally, religiously, and economically diverse group of partners, members, and staff.
The Environmental Justice Organizer will be based in Detroit, Michigan.
This is a mid-level position. Applicants need prior community engagement experience, and should have tireless commitment to social justice, a basic familiarity with environmental and climate issues, and be comfortable building new relationships. Applicants should be prepared for a fast-paced work environment with a high-level of autonomy.
The organizer should be comfortable with modern office software and learning new technologies. Michigan United uses VAN, EveryAction, Microsoft and Google productivity software, Facebook, and Twitter.

Baseline salary for this position is $30,000, and is negotiable commensurate with experience. Health care coverage, paid vacation days, and paid sick days are available after 3-month review.
