POSITION AVAILABLE:  National Media Strategist—Position located in DC

REPORTS TO: VP Communications 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:  Responsible for day-to-day management of Common Cause contacts with the media; working as part of communications team, will help generate national media coverage of Common Cause to advance our issues strategically with a particular emphasis on national media outlets.

RESPONSIBILITIES:   To cultivate and maintain relationships with reporters, editors, bookers and producers, as well as allied media staff; pitch stories; oversee distribution of press releases; manage media database; track and distribute daily clips; coordinate media interviews with Common Cause spokespeople; provide talking points and other related support as needed. In addition, assist in writing and editing a range of materials, including press releases, social media content, web and blog writing, member engagement and other communications needs for Common Cause, its President and staff. 

QUALIFICATIONS:  Experience in media relations; strong writing and editing skills; high energy level; knowledge of congressional or state legislative operations or political campaigns, interest and commitment to advancing public interest reforms; ability to work in close collaboration with others; demonstrated ability to work under pressure and perform a variety of tasks; well organized and attentive to detail.
