Supervisor: Position takes directions from President of the Professional Fire Fighters of New Hampshire and will communicate with the President on a day-to-day basis.

 

The Professional Fire Fighters of New Hampshire seek an experienced Government and Political Affairs director. Must have 2-3 cycles of political experience, some level of legislative experience preferred. Candidate will experience personal growth and satisfaction working with a successful and respected state labor union.

 

Overview: The position will be based at the Professional Fire Fighters of New Hampshire's office located at 43 Centre Street in Concord, NH. The employee will be expected to be present in Concord on a daily basis. The employee is responsible for the management and implementation of state policy, internal and external communications, and managing member campaigns. The position requires the employee to be self-motivated, flexible, willing to travel within the state, and willing to work some nights and weekends. This position is not entry level, and requires experience in the field of government relations, policy, and political campaigns.  

Duties include:

  • Serve as campaign coordinator for 2015 municipal elections, NH primary, and 2016 General Election working sometimes in a bipartisan or non-partisan environment

     

  • Manage political endorsements events and advance work

     

  • Manage all member State Representative and municipal campaigns; including working with vendors, developing campaign budgets, fundraising, secure local endorsements, create messaging of paid communications, plan and execute all voter contact events including call banks, canvasses, visibilities, volunteers, and fundraisers

  • Serve as lobbyist on labor, retirement, health care, firefighting and Emergency Medical Services Issues. Position requires person to register as a lobbyist, track legislation along with administrative rules as well as providing testimony.
  • Navigate and communicate to members state and federal policy changes and political decisions
  • Manage and develop press strategies on all communications both internally and externally including opinion-editorials, talking points, speech writing, social media, press releases
  • Prepare all written materials for lobby days, prepare member testimony
  • Responsible for the growth of the PAC account
  • General office support including updating members through social media and other forms of communication and coordinate with outside consultants, speakers, and national partners

 

Minimum/Essential Qualifications: Employee must be detail oriented, flexible, possess strong organizational skills, and must have a strong belief in the necessity and growth of unions. Strong communication skills a must; which include the ability to assist messaging internally to members and externally to the legislature and the public. 

 Bachelors Degree a Minimum
