Wisconsin Voices Deputy Director

 

Wisconsin Voices seeks a talented leader with a record of success leading and managing civic engagement programs and coalitions to serve as Deputy Director. The Deputy Director will serve as chief program director and manage relationships with partner organizations and allies, develop and manage the coordinated field programs and manage staff.  We seek a strategist with strong field, coalition and campaign skills who will maintain good relationships with partner organizations and work well as a team player in a fast-paced organization.  

BACKGROUND

Wisconsin Voices believes that a democracy is judged by its ability to ensure that all citizens can participate and have a say in their government, and a voice in the decision-making structures around issues that impact their lives. We are a dynamic network of over 60 nonpartisan organizations that leverage their collective power to mobilize and empower people, particularly those that make up the New American Majority. Wisconsin Voices works in alliance with State Voices, a national network of 20 state networks consisting of over 700 diverse and talented organizations working for change.

 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

The Deputy Director, who is based in Milwaukee and reports to the Executive Director, is responsible for the following:

  • Work closely with the Executive Director and Wisconsin Voice partners to develop, articulate and implement the overall strategy to expand and mobilize the electorate and guarantee that policy-making is guided by the public interest, not special interests.
  • Coordinate and convene organizational partners – through our statewide coalitions Engage Wisconsin and Our Democracy 2020. Lead Engage Wisconsin - develop strategic civic and voter engagement plans that encourage year-round civic engagement including issue education and organizing and voter registration and mobilization. Lead Our Democracy 2020 – move the vision of revitalizing Wisconsin's democracy forward through grassroots campaigns, statewide communications, and partner coordination.
  • Build and oversee the implementation and evaluation of our network's coordinated plans including data management, field trainings, voter registration, education and mobilization, and / or education and legislative programs. 
  • Expand participation in the coalition with emphasis on recruitment of key groups representing the New American Majority (people of color, young people, women, transient and limited income communities, and LGBTQ communities).
  • Build the capacity of the organization by working in partnership with the Executive Director to develop and execute organizational plans, manage staff and programs, and raise funds.

 

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

We're seeking candidates who excel in relationship-building, are strategic, results-oriented, and have strong management skills. You should have:

§  A track record of developing and maintaining strong working relationships with and among a diverse group of stakeholders

§  Ability to develop and execute strategic long-term and short-term plans, troubleshoot when problems arise, and make smart judgment calls

§  A demonstrated commitment to meeting a high bar and a history of getting things done even in the face of obstacles

§  Minimum 1-2 years community organizing, voting, or political campaign work experience

§  Experience managing multiple projects and ability to supervise a cadre of staff, consultants, and volunteers

§  Strong understanding of best practices in civic engagement, including voter registration, education and mobilization strategies

 

 

Knowledge of Wisconsin political landscape and experience in data management systems (including the Voter Activation Network) are plusses but are not requirements.

 

SALARY RANGE: Competitive salary, commensurate with experience. Excellent benefits package.
