Background:

The Israel Action Network (IAN) is a strategic initiative of The Jewish Federations of North America (JFNA), in partnership with the Jewish Council for Public Affairs (JCPA), created to counter assaults made on Israel's legitimacy. Israel today faces an intensive and increasingly sophisticated assault on its right to exist as a sovereign democratic Jewish state. IAN was created to educate, organize and mobilize the Jewish Federations, Jewish Community Relations Councils and allied organizations to develop strategic approaches to counter these assaults, and develop innovative efforts to positively change the conversation about Israel in support of a negotiated, two-state solution. Our work is grounded in building strong relationships with people of faith, human rights advocates, political and civic leaders, friends and neighbors, in order to empower our communities to facilitate a broader understanding of Israel and Israelis, and inspire effective action on key issues of mutual concern.

The Position:

The Director, Communications, Social Media and Research, is a full-time position that will manage the development and production of a wide array of communications materials for print, digital and social media channels. It reports to the IAN Managing Director with responsibilities as follows:

·       Draft, edit, and manage the production of a full range of materials to effectively support and advance the goals of IAN.

·       Serve as the IAN general editor for all public and internal documents to ensure brand consistency and continuity of messaging.

·       Create public and private materials, and oversee the preparation and distribution process for each item, which may include newsletters, action alerts, memos, op-eds, talking points, LTEs, long-form publications, and blog posts, among others.

·       Maintain and update the IAN website, including text and image changes, as well as a password-protected members-only area.

·       Oversee and engage IAN's presence on all social media channels, including but not limited to, blogs, Twitter, and Facebook, to monitor reactions and comments.

·       Work with outside communications/PR firms and staff to coordinate cross-organizational efforts.

·       Provide communications, social media strategy, vehicles, tools, best practices and research assistance to Federations, CRCs and other partner organizations.

·       Identify messages and methods of communicating that will engage various constituencies. Work with senior team to develop additional message research.

·       Develop and maintain relations with press, both traditional and new media, in order to further cultivate relationships for outreach, and secure coverage of key events and trends.

·       Review and update existing delegitimization materials from across the community in order to develop new materials and showcase best practices.

  • Develop "out of the box" media strategy campaigns and research new tools and techniques important to conducting effective media outreach.

·       Manage several email lists to coordinate mass mailings and update contacts as needed.

·       Manage junior staff members that assist with daily communications work.

·       Plan and create materials for annual meetings and conferences, and provide presentations at these events as needed.

·       Serve as the project manager for widely-disseminated publications, working with a graphic designer to create appropriate layouts and manage production from start to finish.

 

Qualifications and Attributes:

 

·       Bachelor's Degree of higher in communications, journalism, media relations or related field, with five plus years of experience in those realms.

·       Knowledge of, and experience working with, the American Jewish community and issues regarding the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is strongly preferred.

·       Excellent writing, speaking, and interpersonal skills.

·       Knowledge of all new, social and traditional media channels.

·       Strong team player adept at working in fast-paced environments.

·       May require some travel and occasional off-hours work.
