[jobsthatareLEFT] Executive Director: Nebraska Civic Engagement Table

Nebraska Civic Engagement Table

Executive Director Job Announcement

Job Title: Executive Director

Reports to: Nebraska Civic Engagement Table Steering Committee

Background & Mission

The Nebraska Civic Engagement Table is a new nonpartisan backbone organization whose goal is to strengthen the collective impact of and collaboration between nonprofit 501c3 organizations to have greater influence over issue advocacy, policymaking, and nonpartisan election engagement. The Table provides core capacities and technical support to its member organizations, prioritizes a data-driven approach to civic engagement and communications strategies, facilitates a culture of collaboration between nonprofit partners, and convenes leadership to share best practices.

Our vision is to build a truly representative electorate where every Nebraskan is able to participate in the democratic process and ensure their voices are represented in the policymaking decisions that affect their lives. We will accomplish this by increasing the year-round civic participation of our nonprofit members' supporters and underrepresented constituencies from small towns to urban neighborhoods. Such underrepresented voters include: African-Americans, Latinos, Native Americans, new citizens, low-income families, women, LGBT Nebraskans, young voters, and forward thinking citizens.

We see this occurring within a year-round civic engagement cycle because civic participation can't just be about voting once every other year. When we say year-round engagement, we mean registering and mobilizing people to vote, educating voters on critical issues, building leadership within the community, and mobilizing people to take action. And as nonprofit organizations with trusted relationships within the communities we serve, our nonprofit members are best positioned to mobilize and engage Nebraskans to participate in the democratic process. Through the Table, Nebraska's nonprofit community can ensure civic engagement is conducted in a strategic, coordinated, and deliberate way to build a more representative democracy.

The Table is a proven model implemented in other states to maximize the full advocacy potential of the nonprofit community by building stronger relationships between grassroots and community organizations, policy groups, and nonpartisan voter outreach campaigns. The Table will ensure grassroots organizations with deep community connections can access the civic engagement tools and resources they need to engage with voters; build greater connections between nonprofits developing socially-responsible public policy and nonprofits who can mobilize constituencies to take action; and ensure nonpartisan voter registration drives and Get-Out-the-Vote (GOTV) campaigns build local, long-term community capacity and engage voters post-election on key issues affecting their lives.

Through this year-round civic engagement cycle, we will build an electorate representative of all Nebraskans.
