SUMMARY:

NextGen Climate is seeking a Policy Advisor with substantial knowledge of the energy, environment and climate change sectors to join its growing team. This position is ideal for someone who wants to blend their passion for politics and policy while working at a national political organization committed to affecting real change.
The right candidate will have strong research and writing skills, along with experience working either on political campaigns or in an advocacy role. NextGen Climate's work environment is collaborative and fast-paced and we are looking for someone as passionate about the work as we are.
 
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Serving as an in-house policy expert to other NextGen Climate departments on policy areas and issues related to energy, environment, and climate change.
  • Researching and distilling complex energy and environment issues, including assembling and analyzing quantitative and qualitative data into succinct and accessible products like policy reports and briefings.
  • Contribute to drafting content for external briefings, press releases, memos, digital content, speeches, and op-eds.
  • Tracking and keeping up-to-date on energy and environment issues in targeted regions at the state and the federal levels and advising NextGen Climate on legislation and advocacy efforts.
  • Representing NextGen Climate with other advocacy and policy organizations as it relates to energy, environmental, or climate issues.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED: 
  • A minimum of three to five years of relevant experience working on energy, environment, or climate policy either on Capitol Hill, Governor's office, Federal or state agency, or with a national/state issue advocacy organization. 
  • Experience with federal or state legislative making process.
  • Both politically and policy savvy. 
  • Ability to adapt rapidly to evolving priorities and deadlines.
  • A strong work ethic and consistent attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills – both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work on cross functional teams 
  • Bachelor's degree; graduate degree in a relevant public policy or science discipline preferred but not required.
