Media Matters for America -- a progressive, Washington, D.C-based, nonprofit research and information center dedicated to comprehensively monitoring, analyzing, and correcting conservative misinformation in the U.S. media -- seeks an Intern. The Intern will provide support to Media Matters' Research Department which monitors print, online, and broadcast media for conservative misinformation and is primarily responsible for generating rebuttals to critical strings of misinformation that are being pushed through the media.
Responsibilities:
Provide support to research teams
Monitor TV and radio and alert teams to smears and inflammatory comments
Perform in-depth research on issues pertinent to team's work
Summarize and flag emerging misinformation in print media and blogs
Aid in long-term research projects
Work with issue-specific teams on media coverage of issues like the environment, education and gun control
Qualifications:
Rising Junior or Senior in college, preferably pursuing major in journalism, politics, public policy, or related field
Interest in media and understanding of the effects conservative misinformation has on our public debate
Breadth of knowledge about and awareness of current political and policy issues
Strong research and writing skills
Ability to work both as a team and independently
