Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee Internship Program 

Are you looking for an opportunity to learn more about state legislative politics? Are you interested in working for a state legislative caucus or state legislative candidate?

 

The DLCC Internship Program is designed to provide hands-on experience working with a national political committee and its engagement in a 50-state program. Interns will gain an unprecedented understanding of state legislative caucus programs and campaigns.   

 

Interns will have the opportunity to do substantive work with their department teams while gaining a rich understanding of the DLCC and its mission. Interns will interact with staff members of all departments, attend key staff events, and participate in professional development opportunities such as brown bag lunches with varying senior staff members and key partners of the DLCC. Interns receive a weekly stipend.

 

The DLCC Internship Program is offered on three different schedules:

 

Spring Session: January – Mid May

Summer Session: Late May – Mid August

Fall Session: Late August – December

Data:

 

The Data Department works closely with the Political department in building a strong infrastructure for strong data-driven campaigns. Data interns will assist the Data Department in all activities: including acquiring, cleaning, and processing data to building and automating reports. The data intern will also be tasked with monitoring election results and maintaining and updating state legislative election results database. Candidates with strong Microsoft Excel skills and experience working or volunteering on a political campaign are preferred.

 

Communications:

 

The Communications Intern assists the Strategic Communications & Digital Department in all activities, from researching and drafting press releases, blog posts, and memos to compiling press pitch lists and news roundups. Interns are expected to be able to perform in-depth research about candidates, legislation, and issue positions, and must be innovative thinkers who are eager to learn and be part of a team. Candidates with strong writing skills and an interest in news media are preferred. 

 

Digital:

 

The Digital intern will help draft email blasts, craft social media posts, and build petition and donation pages. The Digital intern will assist the team with developing strategic digital campaigns and routine maintenance of our supporter database. Applicants should be passionate about advancing Democratic values and communicating with progressive activists in the digital space. 

 

Duties: The Digital intern will write email blasts with strong attention to grammar, accuracy, and theme; Write and deploy signup forms and donation pages; Perform quality assurance on email blasts; Perform daily data maintenance as needed; Compile and summarize results of analytics from email campaigns and social media.

 

Design & Digital:

 

The Design & Digital Intern will assist the DLCC in designing materials to engage and educate our supporters. The Design & Digital Intern will work closely with the Digital Team on a variety of projects for our email, web, and social media programs, and help create branded materials for other departments. There will be opportunities to develop various digital skills, including drafting email campaign copy, researching candidates and elections, coding in HTML, and utilizing platforms such as Word Press and Blue State Digital.

 

The ideal candidate will have: a passion to create innovative designs for web and print campaigns. Proficiency in at least one of the following Adobe programs: InDesign, Illustrator, or Photoshop. Effective writing and editing skills. Attention to detail. Strong interest in advancing Democratic values in the digital space. 

 

Finance:

 

The Finance Department is responsible for raising the funds that are essential for flipping state legislatures and strengthening Democratic majorities in state legislative chambers nationwide. The department provides opportunities for interns to have hands on experience with different types of fundraising programs and the unique skill sets that go with each.

 

Duties: The Finance intern will assist the Finance Coordinator with NGPVAN Database maintenance, donor research, and prospecting on an ongoing basis. The intern will have the opportunity to assist the Finance Assistant with research and preparation for call time with key DLCC principals. During DLCC event season the intern will assist in event planning and logistics, as well as preparation for in office events. 

 

Research:

 

The Research team works to compile, create, and strategically apply political research to support Democratic campaigns and candidates at the state level. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is detail-oriented, creative, and dedicated to advancing the Democratic agenda at the state level.

 

Duties: The Research intern will responsible for fact-checking communications from multiple departments; conducting background research on races, candidates, and key issues; drafting memos; and regular media monitoring.
