PURPOSE OF MARCH FORWARD

Based on the success of the March into 2018 program, March Forward has been established to reinforce grassroots and volunteer infrastructures in targeted regions of the country, to hold Republicans accountable, to help generate local press coverage, to support national narratives, and to launch digital organizing efforts.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Grassroots and grasstops organizing on behalf of Democrats: Help grow our movement at the grassroots level, attend and organize events, roundtables, voter registration, and participation drives.
  • Tracking Republicans: Lead and organize a tracking program to hold Republicans accountable.
  • Press accountability: Work with field manager to plan and execute press events.
  • Digital organizing: Use social media and online tools to build a volunteer structure and supplement the field work in the district.
  • Working 10 hours per week (with exceptions) is a mandatory requirement for this fellowship

    REQUIREMENTS:
  • Transportation
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills.
  • Self-motivation, the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Adaptable to changing needs and program priorities.
  • Commitment to the election of Democrats up and down the ballot.
  • Positive attitude required.
  • Previous campaign experience is a plus

    MEETING SCHEDULE:

At least twice weekly. Location subject to change as office space availability changes. Fellows are expected to complete work outside of regularly scheduled meetings with the Field Manager in order to reach monthly goals (i.e., community outreach events, tracking events, etc.), so work will be done more than twice/week and oftentimes from various locations.

    DIGITAL COMMUNICATIONS:

Fellows are expected to use their personal devices for all DCCC-related work. Fellows are encouraged to use their personal social media accounts to help create and proliferate content related to the program. When posting about events related to fellowship program, the hashtags #MarchForward2020 and #AZ01 should be used.

All social media posts are henceforth an extension of the DCCC and should therefore reflect the Committee's values. Content that is inflammatory or negative towards any Democrat should not be posted.

Fellows will be given admin privileges on the Facebook group used to organize DCCC volunteers in AZ-01. Posts should only be made in this group with the express consent of the Field Manager.

    REFLECTIONS/REPORTING:

At the conclusion of each week, fellows are to email the Field Manager a summary of work completed that week, in addition to questions/comments/concerns. A template of this summary will be provided separately.

Assessments of fellow's progress and work will occur to assess performance and reflect on past work will be scheduled as necessary.

    METRICS/GOALS: (subject to change)

Monthly goals for March Forward fellows will be based on the following:

  • Organizing event= Any completed event you are building or coordinating on where we are building capacity and engaging volunteers i.e. trainings, house parties, voter registration events, etc. Fellows should plan and execute at least one organizing event in the month of August
  • Earned media event= Any completed event you are building or coordinating on where we are proactively driving press to i.e. pressers, rallies, protests, etc. Fellows are expected to be heavily involved in the planning and execution of earned media events.
  • 1:1s/community outreach events: public or private meetings in which Field Manager is attending to make connections with local community members/activists (i.e., Indivisible meeting, central committee, etc.). Fellows are expected to take notes and participate actively in said events.
  • Voter registration events= any event led by the DCCC with the goal to register voters in AZ-01. Fellows are expected to be heavily involved in the planning and execution of said events, and complete at least 2 on their own in the month of August.

    DCCC Core Values 2020:
  1. Work hard—protecting the Democratic majority is OUR responsibility. To be successful on Nov. 3, 2020, all of us to have leave it all on the field.
  2. Get results—results matter. Your hard work must also create outcomes that help us achieve our goals.
  3. Be honest—Integrity is non-negotiable. We must be honest with each other, and just as important, with ourselves.
  4. Follow up—and do follow through. Do what you say you're going to do. This will breed confidence in those we serve and distinguish our team from those who make hollow or empty promises.
  5. No drama—what happens at the DCCC stays at the DCCC. No gossip allowed. If you have an issue, work it out directly, and turn the page.
  6. Treat people with respect—our donors, members, candidates and campaign staff are a part of our family. Treat them, and what they contribute to our shared cause, with the care and respect they deserve.
  7. Show gratitude—demonstrating appreciation for those who help us is an integral part of how we operate. We cannot succeed without the help of many people. Say thank you, and know the value of recommending tangible thanks from leadership.
  8. We are a team—know your role, and be great it, but our mission is greater than what one person can achieve alone. We'll be more effective if we collaborate. Winning will be so much sweeter when we do it together!
