Position Description
The Manager of Policy and Advocacy Development for the Policy and Advocacy Team supports our members' knowledge and skill development to attain and advance in high-impact public leadership roles. The Manager will support our team's efforts to scale our programs by researching and implementing best practices to leverage virtual platforms to connect and develop the knowledge, skill, and leadership of our members at all experience levels.
This role requires strong project management experience and creativity. The Manager will assist in piloting different models of online engagement in 2016, requiring creativity and a commitment to constantly learning, improving, and developing ways to increase the effectiveness of our programs.
The Manager reports to the Senior Director, Advancement and Development.
Position Location: Washington, DC or New York City preferred
Responsibilities:
Virtual Program Development
- Conduct research on virtual learning best practices and programs to inform the development of the policy and advocacy team's online learning opportunities
- Assist in developing relationships with online learning providers to expand opportunities for our members
- Create a library of high quality online learning programs offered by outside providers and identify ways LEE can enhance the program experience
- Create and conduct evaluations to assess the quality of virtual learning opportunities offered or suggested by the Policy and Advocacy team
Virtual Knowledge Sharing Programs
- Assist in the development of a virtual knowledge sharing and networking program for mid-level leaders, including recruiting and selecting a competitive participant group, managing virtual platforms to foster engagement of the group, organizing experts to share ideas with the group, and evaluating the effectiveness of the program
- Apply best practices of virtual knowledge sharing to existing LEE programs, including our Policy Advisor Fellowship and Public Policy Fellowship
- Coordinate with other Policy and Advocacy team members to develop skill webinars and e-modules that will be available to all LEE members
Requirements, Skills, Knowledge, Abilities & Competencies
- Bachelor's degree required
- 2 - 3 years of experience in policy or advocacy
- Demonstrated ability to plan strategically, prioritize time and manage implementation of plans in fast-paced environments
- Experience working with online platforms is a plus
- Deep passion for educational equity and a belief in LEE's theory of change
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects with diverse stakeholders and tight deadlines
- Strong creativity and ability to execute innovative ideas to improve program design
- Strong relationship-building skills with internal and external stakeholders
- Ability to work independently and function effectively in a team environment (virtually and in-person)
