Senior Organizer, Latino Engagement
Background
Organize Now is a progressive, community-based organization engaged in and committed to building power to effect change in times of injustice, maintain and protect our existing rights in the state of Florida whenever and wherever injustices are being committed or civil rights are being infringed upon.
The Florida Institute for Reform and Empowerment (F.I.R.E.) is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization that both trains and develops leaders and organizes families in low-to moderate-income communities in Florida. Our vision is for these communities to become critically engaged in the political system in order to create a more just and equitable society.
Opportunity
Organize Now and FIRE seek a highly motivated, talented, and dynamic individual to serve as the Senior Organizer for Latino Engagement. Along with the Organizing and Member Engagement Director, the Senior Organizer for Latino Engagement is responsible for building a strong base of Latino support and engagement to build power in key communities throughout Central Florida.
Primary Responsibilities:
· Support the development and implementation of campaigns focused on building power among Latinos and Puerto Ricans in Central Florida;
· Build grassroots support and shifting power to the Latino communities by reducing the influence of money in politics;
· Assist in identifying and developing leadership among Latino members;
· Provide regular on-turf support to organizers, making sure membership development strategies are being used;
· Work in coalition with partner organizations locally and throughout the country and Puerto Rico interested in working on similar issues;
· Oversee all campaign events to ensure all goals and metrics are being met.
Key Qualifications:
· One to three years of experience in community, labor, or grassroots electoral organizing;
· Understanding of issues facing low income and minority communities;
· Comfort with the implementation of a range of organizing strategies and tactics;
· Self-motivated - proven ability to work independently;
· Ability to be a team player and work in a highly collaborative, fast-paced environment;
· Dedication and ability to work flexible hours;
· Commitment and passion for social justice;
· Spanish/English bilingual preferred.
