Mission Statement: The Pierce County AIDS Foundation, through education and service, prevents HIV infection, assists person affected by HIV/AIDS, addresses related health problems, and combats associated stigma and discrimination.
Job Description
The Executive Director reports directly to the Board of Directors. The Board meets on a monthly basis and its work is overseen by an Executive Committee, which includes the Board President, Past President, Treasurer and Members-at-large.
The Directors of Client Services, Prevention, Development and Communications, and Finance report directly to the Executive Director.
Primary Responsibilities:
1. Provide vision and strategic thinking for the organization as it pertains to the changing landscape of HIV services and funding, and how services and funding specifically are changing in the new ACA landscape.
2. Responsible for the hiring of staff, supervising of staff, monitoring the goals and objectives assigned to staff, evaluating staff performance and terminating of staff.
3. Act as the face of the organization in the community through participation in relevant community events and concerns.
4. Work with the Director of Finance to develop annual agency budget and to assure the financial health of the organization through regular oversight of the agency financials, cash flow and long range financial planning and provide leadership around the annual budget process.
5. Work closely with the Director of Development and Communication to develop and implement a media and PR strategy. Be "on call" for media interviews and consultation with staff.
6. Work with the Board of Directors to recruit, orient and nurture current and potential Board members. Provide ongoing communication to the Board of Directors to support their work. Attend all Board meetings and provide a monthly Executive Director activities/highlights report in writing prior to the meetings. Work with the Board/staff liaison to prepare monthly Board information packets.
7. Assist in facilitating the work of all Board committees and selectively sit on committees that require regular ED input.
8. Assure good communication between staff and administration and oversee the implementation of all HR policies, procedures and legal mandates. Work to maintain a healthy, positive staff culture within Pierce County AIDS Foundation.
9. Provide ongoing supervision to Department Directors and establish an administrative and organizational structure that facilitates implementation of the strategic goals and mission of Pierce County AIDS Foundation.
10. Working closely with the Director of Development and Communications to represent the agency and be the main spokesperson with all media outlets and in public speaking engagements and to pursue fundraising goals of the organization by creating new opportunities and collaborations and by nurturing the existing donor relationships.
11. Assist in formulating and leading the agency's public policy agenda on local, state and national level.
12. Advocate for effective accessibility to all needed services for persons with HIV.
13. Advocate for needed legislative reforms, changes in policies and procedures to services for people with HIV, and needed program funding.
Qualifications
Desired:
- Eight to ten years of experience as a nonprofit senior executive in agencies of comparable size
- Masters degree in Public Health, Social Work, Public Administration or related field or equivalent experience, or 10-years of strong, documented evidence of effective senior executive leadership in lieu of Masters
- Demonstrate financial and budgetary acumen
- Effective experience developing and working with a Board of Directors
- Working knowledge of HIV/AIDS epidemic and culture
- Proven strong public speaking, writing and communication skills
- Advocacy experience with communities and legislators
- Broad fundraising experience and record of accomplishments
- Demonstrated financial management and budget experience
- Proven leadership and staff supervision skills
- Demonstrated history of collaboration and broad community involvement
