Job Description: Field Organizer - Seattle

Position summary: The Field Organizer is a shared position between Washington Environmental Council and Washington Conservation Voters. This person is responsible for supporting Washington Environmental Council's c3 organizing and coalition-building efforts and the c4 grassroots political organizing and accountability efforts of Washington Conservation Voters. The Field Organizer works as part of a team with WEC and WCV campaign staff and in partnership with other organizations. It is a full time position based in Seattle, WA and reports to the Voter Education & Outreach Director.

Washington Conservation Voters (WCV) is the statewide political voice for the environment. We work to elect environmentally responsible candidates to state and local offices. Working with allies in the community, we advocate for strong environmental policies and hold our elected officials accountable during the legislative session. Through our political work, we are strengthening laws that safeguard the health of our communities, the beauty of our state and our economic future.

Washington Environmental Council (WEC) drives positive change to solve our state's most pressing environmental challenges. For almost 50 years, we have been at the forefront of environmental protection in the state, securing laws and policies that safeguard the health of our families and our environment. By effectively combining the policy know-how of WEC with the political know-how of WCV, we have reshaped how environmental protection is achieved in Washington state. While both organizations are independent, we work very closely together. Combined, we have a staff of 28 and work in a LEED-certified building in downtown Seattle with a view of Elliott Bay. Responsibilities:
The Field Organizer works with the WEC and WCV organizing team to develop and implement strategies that involve members, activists, and voters in WEC's policy efforts, grassroots organizing, and issue campaigns. In addition, the Field Organizer plays a key role in advancing WCV's c4 electoral efforts by supporting endorsed candidate campaigns for office, supporting issue campaigns, and by recruiting volunteers and engaging grassroots in key districts.

Specific Duties Include:
  •  Organizes members, activists and interested citizens to participate in grassroots actions in support of WEC and WCV's work; can include recruitment and management of phone-banks, doorbell days, constituent meetings, activist trainings, hearing turnout, etc.WCV and WEC do not discriminate in employment on the basis of age, race, gender identity, religion, maritalstatus, veteran's status, national origin, ability, or sexual orientation.
  •  Strengthens and expands WEC and WCV's volunteer network and activist base, with a keen eye toward involving women, young people, and people of color in opportunities to engage in policy and political advocacy.
  •  Supports WCV's electoral campaigns and WCV's endorsed candidates' campaigns for office by recruiting a grassroots base to help with voter contact in their districts; may coordinate efforts with endorsed candidate campaigns in district, as needed.
  •  Strengthens and expands relationships with coalition partners while working on multi-year efforts, including the Alliance for Jobs and Clean Energy and the Environmental Priorities Coalition, as well as the Power Past Coal and Stand Up to Oil campaigns.
  •  Ensures that activist data and engagement history is comprehensively and accurately captured in organizational databases according to organizational best practices.
  • Works with the Accountability team to effectively organize opportunities around the WCV scorecard and accountability program.
  • Assists with organizing volunteers for WEC and WCV's large fundraising events.
Skills Required
  • Strong verbal and people skills, with demonstrated ability to connect easily with individuals of all backgrounds.
  •  Ability to maintain a flexible schedule that will include some evening and weekend work.
  •  Ability to be creative, take initiative, develop ideas and turn them into action.
  •  Ability to work effectively, both independently and with a team, in a fast‐paced, dynamic environment.
  • Commitment to environmental protection and an ability to apply a social justice understanding to our work.
Desirable Skills
  •  Bilingual abilities.
  • Experience in community organizing, or related experience implementing successful grassroots advocacy or electoral campaigns, or commensurate experience in school or life.
  • Comfort with computers, solid understanding of social media tools and concrete ideas about how technology can help organize people and teams.
  •  Interest in and awareness of political processes and the political landscape of Washington state.
  • Knowledge of the Voter Activation Network (VAN), Salesforce (or another similar database platform) and other field tools.
  •  Experience working with multi ethnic, multi-racial and other stakeholders (labor, business, faith, social justice or others).
