Director of Organizing Columbus, OH The Secular Student Alliance, a Columbus-based secular organization dedicated to improving America's moral and political landscape by empowering students, is seeking a full-time Director of Organizing. Reporting directly to the Executive Director, the Director of Organizing will support college students in launching secular social change campaigns, and coordinate nationwide actions across our network of hundreds of high school and college campus groups. Supervising the Campus Organizing and Communications staff and contractors, the Director of Organizing will deploy the SSA's resources toward identifying promising secular campus campaigns and at least one new opportunity for coordinated multi-campus action per semester, providing organizing support and resources for these campus actions, and promoting inspiring stories in local and national media to help build the movement of secular students and supporters. The Director of Organizing's work should also be geared toward inspiring the creation of new campus secular groups to expand the SSA network. The Director of Organizing will play a key role in the organization's decision-making and leadership process, working in close collaboration with the Executive Director and other staff. This is an exciting position for the right candidate to shape the SSA's expanded focus on campaigns, answering the strong desire of our student membership to participate in activism infused by humanistic values. Ideal secular student campaigns reflect a synthesis of social justice and critical thinking, which have included actions around reproductive rights, LGBTQ rights, evolution, interfaith collaboration and defense of minority beliefs, and much more. The candidate should be capable of long-term strategic thinking and jumping on opportunities for action as they arise. This is a new position and we are looking for candidates with at least five years of professional experience. Responsibilities include: * Support students in creating and leading social change campaigns centered around a network of hundreds of campus groups around the country * Expand the network of secular student groups across the United States * Supervise Campus Organizing and Communications staff and contractors * Design and oversee coordinated social media, email, and media campaigns * Work in tandem with Executive Director on direction and strategy of the organization * Support fundraising by working with Development to reach current and potential donors with inspiring secular student activism stories Requirements: * Bachelor's degree * Experience leading a team responsible for social change campaigns * Nonprofit management experience * Excellent written and verbal communication skills * Willingness to travel to multi-day conferences a few times a year (all costs covered) * Investment in using research to make decisions and improve practices * Commitment to humanistic values, social justice, and critical thinking Pluses: * Experience developing and promoting a brand (ideally in a social change context) * Experience in communications or journalism * Excellent attention to detail and proofreading skills * Knowledge of the secular movement * Prior work with campus organizations or students This is a full-time paid position with fully paid health, dental, and disability insurance.
