State Field Directors

Acadia Consulting, LLC is working with AARP to recruit State Field Directors to join the Take A Stand Social Security Campaign. Take A Stand is a nonpartisan advocacy campaign working in
battleground states to engage AARP members and the public to encourage Presidential candidates to commit to updating Social Security for the 21st century. The Social Security Trustees have warned that Social Security recipients will receive a 25% cut – which is about $10,000 annually for the average retiree. AARP believes it is a test of Presidential leadership to have a strong plan to resolve this crisis now and we are looking for individuals to join this game–changing campaign. The State Field Director will support recruitment, hiring, and training of staff and volunteers, manage a large-scale state program, and be responsible for using tactics to successfully execute a defined program strategy. The program will include tactics such as phone banking, canvassing, online digital engagement, and in-person events. Various forms of paid media will support all efforts.
This position and direct reports will be based in locations to be determined and operate through November 2016 with the opportunity to extend. The national campaign will be based in Washington, DC. Position start dates are between April 1 - April 30.
Reporting
This position will report to the National Field Director.
Duties
- Provide daily leadership for staff and volunteers in order to successfully execute state campaign
- Serve as direct supervisor for Lead Field Organizers to drive contact and other engagement programs
- Liaise with local AARP state office on campaign and coordinate effectively to meet program goals
- Ensure development of positive, productive experiences between AARP members and campaign
- Help staff recruit and develop volunteer leadership
- Coordinate with national staff to identify training needs for staff and volunteers
- Enforce usage of reporting systems and provide regular updates as requested
- Follow and enforce established protocols and procedures to ensure security of data
- Participate in staff hiring process
- Evaluate staff performance and recommend improvements
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of experience, including multiple cycles of leading integrated field efforts for political, organizing, advocacy, or issue-based campaigns, is required
- Ability to build and maintain relationships with staff, stakeholders, and volunteers with beliefs across the political spectrum
- Very strong leadership qualities and experience managing staff
- Experience creating training materials or leading training of others
- Strategic mindset with flexibility to quickly adjust tactics
- Metrics-driven approach to planning, evaluating, and reporting on work
- Access to reliable transportation and willingness to travel throughout the state
- Must be proficient with computer technology and databases
- Previous experience working with volunteers is a plus
- Experience managing budgets is a plus
- Experience in the state applicant is applying to is a plus
