The National Community Reinvestment Coalition (NCRC) was formed in 1990 by national, regional, and local organizations to develop and harness the collective energies of community reinvestment organizations from across the country so as to increase the flow of private capital into traditionally underserved communities. NCRC has grown to an association of more than 600 community-based organizations that promote access to basic banking services, including credit and savings, to create and sustain affordable housing, job development and vibrant communities for America's working families.

JOB SUMMARY:

The Regional Organizer will recruit new, and help retain existing, partner organizations and other members of NCRC which serve communities and their residents seeking ways to gain access to credit and capital, workforce opportunities and small business and microenterprise development.

The Regional Organizer will serve as the liaison from the national organization to its members and provide consistent two-way communications and expertise to NCRC's state and local partners in all of its informational, legislative and other campaigns.

The Regional Organizer builds NCRC's national profile, identifies, activates, and trains a diverse constituency for NCRC in the United States, and helps build a diverse next generation of leaders and activists in the economic justice movement.

The Regional Organizer will be responsible for initiating and maintaining an active membership base, providing electronic and face-to-face interactions that drive the organization's goals and objectives at all levels of government and private sector involvement.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Identify, recruit and build relationships with state and community-based organizations in selected states to broaden and strengthen NCRC's organizational reach at all levels and to increase ties to statewide and other coalitions in order to promote economic justice and security.
  • Provide technical assistance both on-site, through the internet, and by telephone, conference calls and webinars to state partners and coalition members
  • Support: 1) developing, releasing and institutionalizing NCRC's program/policy agenda, 2) using NCRC policies as vehicles for organizing and advocacy, and 3)utilizing an economic justice and workforce development framework to broaden coalition membership.
  • Consult and advise members on organizing strategy related to the training programs; ensure all training programs include meeting goals that relate to NCRC campaigns; develop campaign plans and recruit members to join in campaigns.
  • Participate in and lead grassroots-related components of the annual campaign planning process; perform annual strategic evaluations of the team's performance.
  • Maintain ongoing contact with state partners and coalitions to keep them up-to-date on policy and programmatic developments as well as communications strategies.
  • Organize, facilitate and participate in meetings with state partners and coalition members and with potential members.
  • Develop and implement training, outreach, and communications materials for the field including materials focused on NCRC's policies.
  • Develop and distribute technical assistance materials – e.g. policy briefs, fact sheets, training curricula – for state and local members.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Collect data and track membership recruitment outcomes at the national, state and community levels on the implementation of NCRC's organizing campaigns, public policies and membership needs and local activities.
  • Implementation of NCRC's economic justice framework, messages and products.
  • Interest in traveling to, and interacting with, partner (and potential partner) sites, organizations, training programs and other regional and local activity for the purpose of representing NCRC Board and executive leadership or assisting the same during their travels, training, and addresses.
  • Organize and participate in national and state conferences, meetings, trainings and briefings for NCRC's programs, framework and messages.
  • Ensure recruitment goals for existing and new training programs are met.
  • Coordinate recruitment efforts with other departments and teams within the membership and training department to maximize results.
  • Ensure the successful development of recruitment-related materials and web content.
  • Provide administrative support to Membership and Training leaders and staff.
  • Participate in team meetings and activities for organization.
  • Manage one or more interns who will assist the Regional Organizer with activities.
  • Contribute to the development of NCRC's public policy agenda.
  • Support the Director and Chief Officer of the team and other NCRC team members.
  • Other special projects, where applicable, in supporting overall NCRC mission.

COMPETENCIES:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with exceptional presentation and facilitation skills.
  • Knowledge of a wide variety of software tools, including webinar technology, and the ability to adapt to new tools easily.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to work both collaboratively and independently, and work effectively with members, industry leaders, and other professional associations.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A Bachelor's degree is preferred but not required.
  • Minimum of two years' experience in community and/or labor organizing
  • Strong organizational abilities, including excellent attention to detail, the ability to prioritize and multi-task, and the ability to manage several moving and changing parts.
  • Experience working with diverse groups of people and stakeholders.
  • Experience with national organizing networks (Gamaliel, PICO, IAF, NPA)
  • Ability to read, write, and speak Spanish is preferred but not required. 
  • Desire to travel nationwide and willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends
