We are seeking a versatile, outstanding writer for a range of projects. Primary responsibility for our weekly electronic newsletter, blog posts, quarterly membership publication, columns and op-eds, and support for social media communications. The successful candidate also will be engaged in media outreach and strategic campaigns.

 

The position requires high-level written communication skills and inter-personal skills.

 

Description of duties:

  • Full responsibility for the weekly electronic newsletter for leaders and activists. This person will conceptualize/research/write/locate photos and graphics and work with technical assistant.

     

  • Be fully engaged in media outreach on worker issues, and contribute creatively to message framing and campaign planning as part of the communications team.

     

  • Responsibility for conceptualizing/research/writing/photos/graphics for quarterly membership publication, working with other communications staff.

     

  • Responsibility for a variety of writing projects as assigned. Assignments may include worker profiles and issue campaign materials, materials for media kits, communications to support locals' media programs, others. All require clear, concise and compelling writing skills.

     

    The successful candidate will work with all levels of union leadership and staff and must be able to work under and meet tight deadlines, translate complicated subject matter into compelling and engaging written work, and work well as part of the communications team. 

     

    Requirements: At minimum, a Bachelor's degree and work experience that demonstrates superior writing skills, ability to work well in a deadline-oriented position and ability to support the goals of the union's communications program.

     

    Samples of recent work and references are required. Successful candidate must be able to work extended hours and weekends on short notice.  Some travel.
