JOB OPENING: Diverse (American Voices for Climate) Business Coordinator based in Chicago

Environmental Entrepreneurs (E2) is a national, nonpartisan organization of business owners, investors and others who advocate for smart policies that are good for both the environment and the economy. Position Description
The E2 American Voices for Climate Coordinator will be responsible for identifying, recruiting and activating diverse business leaders and potential new E2 members and leading them in advocating for policies to advance clean energy, reduce carbon pollution and address other environmental issues. The primary focus of the will be organizing African-American and Hispanic business voices to advocate for strong state implementation of climate policies and the federal Clean Power Plan in Illinois, with emphasis on strong state policies like the Illinois Clean Jobs Bill.
This is not an entry level position. The ideal candidate has broad experience in organizing, advocacy and business; has strong business and connections in Illinois and experience working with lawmakers and policymakers in those states. Public affairs and consulting firms in Illinois that meet these requirements are encouraged to apply.This is a short-term contract part-time position for five months with the possibility of an extension. Location for this consulting or contract employee position is Chicago, Illinois. Position will report to E2 Midwest Advocate.
Responsibilities
• Develop and implement strategies to engage diverse business leaders as advocates for strong climate policies;
• Contribute to joint collaboration of E2, NRDC, and Voces Verdes on the design, implementation, and execution of state plans through earned media, grasstop and coalition mobilization; with E2 taking the lead.
• Work with E2 staff to conduct media outreach;
• Assist in organizing events to discuss the economic benefits of climate action and the Clean Power Plan with local business leaders and others throughout the state;
• Attend and actively participate in relevant networking events
Professional Qualifications
• Experience in organizing and advocacy work
• Experience working with business executives and lawmakers
• Experience or strong interest in legislative, energy and climate change issues
• Experience working autonomously and remotely
• Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills
• Familiarity with environmental policy issues
