Freedman Consulting, LLC, is hiring an Editor in Chief to serve as the head of an exciting content development team. Freedman Consulting is partnering with a leading foundation to develop a content team that will play a seminal role in producing ongoing, up-to-the-minute, and cutting-edge content through multiple channels to analyze, elevate, inform, advance and celebrate the rapidly evolving public sector innovation movement. Content will be aimed at practitioners, funders, thinkers, and strategists already involved in conversations or projects related to government innovation, as well as those that should be. The Editor in Chief will drive creative and strategic product development, manage the client team, and lead the client relationship to ensure all content is in line with overarching client goals.


Freedman Consulting, LLC, located in Washington, DC, provides strategic consulting services to foundations, nonprofit organizations, political campaigns and elected officials, and corporate philanthropies. Our portfolio includes strategic planning and evaluations for major foundations and nonprofit organizations, policy and communications campaign development for major coalitions, and strategic work in presidential and other high profile political campaigns. The position entails client-facing and managerial responsibilities, including:

* Leading day-to-day client relationship and overall project;

* Staff management with 5 direct reports;

* Driving overall direction of client project and understanding client needs;

* Overseeing the research and development of a variety of content pieces including reports, memos, and briefs;

* Staying abreast of current innovation trends and discussions;

* Ensuring that content is relatable, actionable, and jargon-free;

* Assisting in the professional development of firm staff; and

* Directing client interactions, including facilitating meetings, calls, and presentations.


Applicant should have outstanding editing and writing skills, strong knowledge of public sector innovation tools and practices, local government experience or knowledge of how local government works, a demonstrated ability to meet deadlines, and fluency in the latest content-distribution platforms and an ability to create cutting edge content.


A bachelor's degree is required and at least 10-15 years of previous communications, journalism, consulting, and/or research experience. A master's degree in a relevant area is preferred. Applicants must possess excellent writing, strategy and analytical skills, demonstrated management capabilities (including leading teams), problem solving acumen, strong presentation skills, and the ability to think through and work on complex challenges and policy areas critically and strategically. * Overseeing Associate-level staff and directing tasks on individual projects;

* Providing strategic guidance to clients; and

* Leading client meetings, calls, and presentations.


Applicant should come from a strong policy and analytical background, possess knowledge of public sector innovation tools and practices, have experience developing and managing quantitative and qualitative research agendas, be comfortable working with large datasets, and be able to translate complex data into easily understood and compelling narratives.


A bachelor's degree is required and at least 7-10 years of previous policy research experience is preferred. Applicants must possess excellent writing and analytical skills, problem solving acumen, management potential, strong presentation skills, and the ability to think through complex policy issues critically and strategically.
