Nevada Communications Director Job Description

Progressive Super PAC seeks Nevada Communications Director to develop and implement aggressive communications strategy with state and local media and Spanish-language press. This position offers strategic guidance and detailed execution of plans in their area of specialty as well as planning and implementing long and short-term communications campaigns in state. Candidates need to be comfortable and confident in working directly with journalists; as well as helping develop and execute communications plans supporting campaign objectives. He/She will also assist the communications director in day-to-day press responsibilities and rapid response as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Drafting and translating press releases, media advisories, memos, talking points, op-eds, social media and web content, and other materials as needed under tight deadlines;
  • Assisting in the development and implementation of earned media plans, building media events and garnering significant press coverage;
  • Developing relationship with Hispanic press outlets and reporters;
  • Pitching earned media events targeted at Hispanic media outlets;
  • Proactively seeking out news opportunities and creative placement strategies as part of short- and long-term planning;
  • Identifying and executing rapid-response opportunities for media engagement;
  • Creating and maintaining a communications calendar to identify longer term messaging opportunities and strategy in Hispanic press outlets;
  • Monitoring media in Hispanic press outlets;


Qualifications: 

  • Fluency in Spanish (speaking, reading, and writing);
  • A passion for progressive causes and advocating and communicating about the Latino community;
  • Demonstrated experience with successfully placing print and electronic stories, op-eds and ensuring appropriate messages are placed in proactive and reactive stories;
  • Experience in media relations with a preference for advocacy/political communications;
  • Solutions-oriented approach, with a willingness to take initiative, while juggling several priorities that may change quickly;
  • Ability to develop long-term plans, set objectives, and track progress toward achieving objectives;
  • Exercise good judgment in high-pressure situations. Flexibility and a willingness to take on new tasks as the responsibilities of the position evolve;
  • Experience working on projects in a fast-paced environment;
  • Strong verbal communications and interpersonal skills;
  • Maintaining enthusiasm and calm demeanor in stressful situations;
  • The person filling this position must be nimble, committed to teamwork, have an exceptional ability to stay organized and to manage their time effectively, and possess a keen attention to detail;
  • Ability to work both independently and as a team member in a busy office with personal enthusiasm, optimism, and a sense of humor.
