Shared Schoolyard Project Seeks Community Organizer
Background and Position
The Shared Schoolyard Project is a partnership between the City of San Francisco, the San Francisco Unified School District, and San Francisco's neighborhoods and communities that envisions and provides for a place for children and families to play and gather within walking distance of every child in San Francisco. Through this unique joint partnership, the City and the School District are able to open over 30 schoolyards to the public across the city, with a rapid expansion program over the next two years.
The Shared Schoolyard Project is hiring an organizer to join the project. The organizer will perform various methods of outreach to schools, parents, residents, community organizations, merchants, and political clubs to identify supporters for the goal of building awareness and support for the Shared Schoolyard Project.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: door-to-door outreach, phone calls, event planning and setup, online and social media communication, research, database management, and volunteer recruitment.
Qualifications
Strong organizational skills, communication and motivational skills, work ethic, and passion for political/civic issues are essential. Candidates must be able to work within a small team, take initiative, and be self-motivated. Prior organizing experience, either in a community group or on a campaign, preferred. Preference will be given to candidates fluent in Mandarin, Cantonese, or Spanish.
Expectations
Position lasts through December 2016 with the possibility of an extension. Work hours can include evenings and weekends.
Timing and Location
The position is open for immediate hire. Position is located in San Francisco.
