Position: IT Coordinator
Classification: Full-time, Exempt
Position Summary:
The IT Coordinator is responsible for coordinating our IT program and infrastructure. Although this position is based in Los Angeles, s/he will provide support and will travel throughout the state of California. The IT Coordinator will supervise and provide guidance to current IT technicians in our LA and Oakland offices, work with field staff to meet their technology needs, conduct performance reviews, supervise IT governance activities, report on operational metrics, and ensure that the network and systems are operational in all UHW offices.
UHW is a rapidly growing organization and the IT organization will support the technology needs of field and internal service staff. This position requires extensive multi-tasking, ability to accomplish things in short turn-around times under pressure, and a high-level capacity to evaluate and deal with conflicting priorities.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Communicate with organization leadership to effectively identify project / infrastructure needs and evaluate alternative technical solutions that meet organizational goals.
- Establish, maintain, and document processes and standard operating procedures that reflect best practices with IT management and ensure compliance with audit requirements.
- Manage hardware and software upgrades, release and roll-out across the organization.
- Manage and report on IT assets including mobile phones, tablets, desktops, laptops, servers, printers, conference room technologies, and telecom equipment.
- Establish IT department metrics and report quarterly on those to organizational leadership.
- Recommend changes to improve server systems and network configurations and determine hardware or software requirements related to such changes. Document current and future architectures. Evaluate and report on new tools and technologies.
- Coordinate with vendors and with company personnel to implement and support internal IT infrastructure, cloud, and telecom systems.
- Supervise sub-contractors and coordinates the addition, removal and movement of equipment and data cabling.
- Assist to design and implement disaster recovery procedures.
- Ensure highest level of data security and backup. Be able to manage role-based security systems.
- Perform periodic security assessments.
- Manage enterprise data networking services and enterprise servers (on premise and in cloud).
- Coordinate training for IT, field, and internal services staff with diverse technology backgrounds.
- Supervise, coach, and provide guidance to IT staff.
- The candidate will work with Assistant IT Director on department and organization-wide projects to achieve the goals of SEIU-UHW.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in technical field or a relevant combination of education and experience.
- Experience with documenting technical architecture including proficiency with tools like Visio.
- Experience with IT governance best practices.
- Experience with project management methodologies like Agile a plus.
- MCSE or Cisco CCNA certification a plus.
- Experience with Storage Server (NFS, SMB, iSCSI and Fiber Channel).
- Experience with Dell SAN, VMware Virtualization preferred.
- Experience with file server migration.
- 5+ years of Windows Server (2003/2008/2012) administration experience.
- Minimum 5 years of solid experience in overall systems and software support and maintenance in a mixed Windows, iOS, and macOS environment.
- Active Directory experience important.
- Experience with collaboration tools like SharePoint and Office 365 experience a plus.
- Experience with IT asset management best practices and tools.
- Application & OS security, including virus scan management experience.
- 5+ year of networking experience and server equipment, monitoring tools and concepts.
- Experience with network protocols and technologies (TCP/IP, UDP, SNM, SMTP, DHCP, DNS, and Wi-Fi).
- Experience with management and monitoring tools (such as Solarwinds or others).
- Experience with design and management Exchange Server (2010/2013/2016/Online).
- Experience with backup software (Netbackup, AppAssure, or others).
- Experience with Cisco Voice solutions and Cisco Unified Communication Manager.
- Knowledge of video conferencing system and other AV solutions (Polycom, Cisco).
- Experience with cloud services such as Amazon Web Services or Microsoft Azure.
- Salesforce and iCloud knowledge a plus.
- Experience with video surveillance, access and alarm system a plus.
- Microsoft SQL experience a plus.
- Well organized and detail oriented with excellent time management skills.
- Ability to multi-task and handle urgent interruption with poise and professionalism.
- Ability to execute assignments within established timeframes and quality standards, while responding to immediate needs.
- Ability to provide off-hours support if needed.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a long-distance team.
Physical Requirements:
- Sitting at a computer workstation for extended periods (up to four hours at a time) typing.
- Lifting up to 50 pounds.
- Employees must recognize that working in the labor movement is tough, demanding work, which sometimes requires working long or irregular hours including holidays.
- Travel is required.
