Job Title: Organizing Coordinator

Job Description
SEIU California State Council is seeking an innovative, strategic Organizing Coordinator to lead the work testing alternative strategies to organize workers into unions and mobilize them into social justice movements. Specifically, the Organizing Coordinator will work with SEIU local unions and associated worker organizations to connect new organizing with training and professional development of workers in the early care and education industry.
SEIU's California Early Care and Education campaign has secured nearly $4M in grants and funding for education and training programs, including for the creation of the SEIU Early Educator Apprenticeship and peer-led Early Educator Occupational Health and Safety trainings. These programs are housed under the SEIU Early Educator Training Center (SETC) launched which was launched in 2016. The Organizing Coordinator's role will center union growth within the union's training work.
Job Duties
Working with local unions to develop and implement strategic organizing plans and practices connected to the SETC. Some of the responsibilities connected with the SETC include conducting outreach on behalf of the training program, developing partnerships with employers and other partners that benefit from education and training outcomes as well as union growth.
The Coordinator will also develop a board of directors for the SETC, support and develop local union staff. To be successful, this person should be an experienced organizer working with multiple sets of stakeholders, a strong communicator, have a successful track record developing and implementing strategic organizing plans, and demonstrate success working with diverse audiences from union members, employers, and industry partners.
Most importantly, this individual must be committed to building long-term power for working people, creating a just and humane society, and be dedicated to a pro-worker, learner-centered, supportive environment.
Minimum Qualifications
· B.A. degree or at least three (3) years of supervisory experience and five (5) years of related work experience.
· Thorough knowledge of labor program planning and development.
· Knowledge of strategies and techniques used by SEIU to organize and lead division workers.
· Knowledge of unions and their issues.
· Knowledge of bargaining, organizing and organizational management
· Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; ability to make formal presentations and write advocacy papers.
· Ability to write strategic plans
· Ability to manage and supervise staff
· Ability to use personal computer.
· Ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
· Ability to handle multiple "priority" projects and meet established timelines.
· Ability to work effectively with elected leaders and staff in complex and sometime political situations.
· Ability to conduct training sessions.
· Ability to communicate political and policy priorities to SEIU members.
· Ability to travel as needed
