JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Community Outreach Specialist builds grassroots connections and relationships with new supporters and leaders in their region, forms partnerships with local organizations, and educates community members and youth activists to take action in their communities. The Specialist will build a network of diverse youth and young adults who act as committed leaders in helping to create America's first tobacco-free generation by regularly leading tobacco prevention advocacy campaigns and recruiting others to participate.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Build grassroots capacity within the community and on college campuses by identifying new supporters and leaders, building grassroots infrastructure, and ensuring that diversity (racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic) is an active part of activist recruitment
- Identify, establish, and manage partnerships with community based organizations
- Educate community and activists on Truth Initiative tobacco control priorities
- Mobilize volunteers and activists to take action in their community on tobacco prevention issues
- Develop, recruit for, and lead community actions including town halls, rallies, tabling events, letters to the editor, etc.
- Implement national campaigns and initiatives within region
- Extend reach of truth's national mass media campaign and event initiatives as needed on a local level through social channels
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum of three years of community outreach experience or relevant combination of professional training and experience, preferably within the city/state
- Experience working with diverse groups, including ability to reach across racial, ethnic, generational, socioeconomic lines
- Strong track record of setting and meeting goals
- Strong affinity for networking and building strategic relationships
- Ability to work efficiently under tight deadlines
- Strong communication skills (written and verbal)
- Willingness to work non-traditional work hours and weekends
- Self-motivated and ability to work independently
- Proven efficiency in the use of Microsoft Office Suite and internet
WORK ENVIORNMENT:
- The individual chosen for this position must be able to work from home.
- Position openings in Atlanta, GA and Nashville, TN
- Overnight travel up to 12 weeks a year, including 3 weeks per year in Washington, DC
