[jobsthatareLEFT] Environment North Carolina State Director

Environment North Carolina seeks an experienced organization-builder to coordinate advocacy, field organizing, fundraising, and media communications for our group. Environment North Carolina is a statewide, citizen-based environmental advocacy organization. We stand up to polluting industries, fight for a green future, and do what it takes to win. We believe strongly that there is so much worth protecting in North Carolina — whether it's the vibrant autumn colors of the Blue Ridge Foothills or the serenity found along the pristine beaches of the Outer Banks.

The Director will drive our work to keep the Outer Banks free from oil drilling and will keep his/her finger on the pulse of state and local decision-making to push for more protections and stop any and all attacks on our state's environment.

The Director will play a critical role in developing and executing strategies on the ground to build long-term political power for our organization in the state. S/he will work with our national program staff and organizing staff on the ground to maximize the impact of our work.

Environment North Carolina is part of a national federation of environmental groups with offices in 29 states and Washington, D.C.

Advocacy: Build relationships with key players in North Carolina. Bring problems and solutions to the attention of decision-makers: state legislators, the Governor's staff, state regulators, local officials and federal representatives. Work to block threats to our environment in the legislature.

Campaign Coordination: Develop and execute plans to win on our environmental campaigns. Assess opportunities for building political support for our agenda through coalition-building, grassroots organizing and media outreach.

Coalition Building: Cultivate relationships with diverse and powerful allies and expand the constituencies supporting our efforts. This will include building a coalition of key allies and getting them actively involved in our campaigns including attending events and participating in press conferences.

Media Outreach: Serve as a public spokesperson through media events, press releases, op-eds and other visibility tactics with a goal of building name recognition for the organization, educating the public about our issues and demonstrating support for our positions.

Fundraising: Write grant proposals, build relationships with foundation staff and meet with large donors, all to bring more resources to campaigns we're running to protect our environment. Work with our citizen outreach staff to build and develop our membership base.

Strategic planning: Work with staff in the state and nationally to identify the best opportunities to efficiently build our name recognition and access with power players and the general public in the state. Create and execute long-term plans to build the organization.

Recruitment: Recruit new staff, interns and volunteers to increase our impact and build our power.
