SUMMARY:
The Director of Advocacy (DA) reports to and assists the Senior Vice President of Advocacy with the management NextGen Climate's advocacy department, which includes national and state based issue advocacy and electoral programs. a national youth vote program, digital advocacy, and development. The DA will collaborate closely with the the communications and policy departments to develop campaign strategies and a budget that best supports NGC's stated goals. The DA will offer day to day guidance for the Advocacy team on project plan development, budgeting, and be the driving force on departmental execution. The DA will assist the SVP of Advocacy with interdepartmental communication and offer campaign planning expertise during project plan development.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist the SVP of Advocacy in the development of goals and strategy for NextGen Climate's issue and electoral programs
- Work daily with the SVP of Advocacy on development and implementation of campaign plans for both issue and electoral campaigns
- Development of campaign plans including campaign budgets, staff plans, timelines, tracking of metrics, and voter contact programs with the Advocacy Department staff
- Train Advocacy Team staff in campaign plan development and execution
- Manage the flow of information to the SVP of Advocacy from Advocacy Team staff while ensuring that the SVP of Advocacy is prepped on all campaign activities
- Act as a campaign resource for other departments on campaign tactics and planning
- Assist with the day to day management of Advocacy team staff
- Liaise with national organizations and other members of the progressive community, as appropriate
- Act as project lead on both issue and electoral campaign projects
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
- Mandatory eight years or more experience directing issue based AND electoral campaigns
- Experience with staff/consultant management, message development, paid media, and voter contact
- Experience on diverse issue campaigns, not just environmental
- Strong campaign skills, including the ability to seize strategic opportunities; can develop effective issue advocacy programs
- Very well organized; excellent written and oral communications
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate with colleagues; works well in a fast-paced environment and able to multi-task without sacrificing quality of work
- Strong leadership development and staff training experience
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
- Experience effectively managing a diverse team
- Ability to foster a cooperative, team-oriented work environment
- Ability to work collaboratively with other department heads
- Ability to work overtime with little notice
- This position is based in San Francisco, CA
