Be a part of the team that will be instrumental to the Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee (DLCC) taking back our state legislatures and—by winning crucial redistricting fights— remaking the U.S. Congress to re-enfranchise millions of voters and end the GOP single party rule that's paralyzing our government.

 

Our task is no less than to teach a generation of voters about the central role their state legislatures play in their day-to-day lives, and in the shaping of the country.

 

The mission is to win Democratic majorities and build Democratic power in state legislatures.

 

Position

 

The Political Assistant coordinates an informed political team and delivers timely, accurate political information that is always available. 

 

The Political Assistant provides direct support for the National Political Director and will interface with the entire DLCC Political Department. The Political Assistant will handle incoming political requests and departmental administration, and will assist in completing a wide-range of department projects. The Political Assistant will exercise good judgment in all situations. Using strong organizational and prioritization skills, the Political Assistant is expected to balance multiple priorities, from concept to completion, while working independently on projects as assigned. The Political Assistant must be able to work under pressure, while handling a wide variety of projects and responsibilities, many of which contain confidential information that is expected to be handled with discretion.

 

This position reports to the National Political Director and is based in Washington, DC.

Responsibilities

 

Administrative Support

 

  • Complete a broad variety of administrative tasks for the National Political Director including:

                      Managing an active calendar of appointments;

                      Completing expense reports;

                      Composing and preparing correspondence that is sometimes confidential;

  • Plans, coordinates and ensures the National Political Director's schedule is followed and respected.

Project Management

 

  • Successfully completes critical aspects of deliverables with a hands-on approach, including meeting prep documents, follow up memos and reports.
  • Communicates directly, and on behalf of the National Political Director, with staff and external partners.
  • Manage the data entry and update responsibilities for political department database, while ensuring the database is current and accurate.
  • Ensure departmental plans and materials are updated and accurate. Regularly update department plans and materials.
  • Conduct department meeting prep and external partner meeting prep.
  • Prioritizes conflicting needs; handles matter expeditiously, proactively, and follows-through on projects to successful completion, often with deadline pressures.
  • Supports in the preparation of presentations for the National Political Director.
  • Provide support for standing political meetings, including note-taking and distribution of action items and follow up.
  • Assist all members of political department with projects as needed, at the direction of the National Political Director.
  • Other duties as assigned by the National Political Director.

 

Expected Outcomes

 

  • Strategically aligned and impact oriented scheduling systems are maximizing the time of the National Political Director.
  • Briefing systems ensure timely, high quality decisions; desired results from meetings are achieved; and the National Political Director is prepared and polished for external representation activities.
  • DLCC Leadership Team, along with all internal departments, external partners, Board members, and DLCC staff are very satisfied with the quality, frequency, and effectiveness of Political Department communications.
  • Department systems are respected and department materials are updated and accurate.

 

Qualifications

 

Political campaign experience is preferred. Familiarity with VAN, QuickBase and NGPVAN are a plus. Strong writing skills and ability to use Microsoft Office programs are required. A minimum of one year of relevant experience is required.
