Position Opening: Director of Public Leadership Programs

 

 Position Location: Flexible with a preference for New York City or Washington DC

Position Type: Full time with start date as soon as possible

 

The New American Leaders Project (NALP) is leading a movement for inclusive democracy by preparing first and second generation Americans to use their power and potential in public office. Headquartered in New York, NALP is a national, nonprofit organization with programs across the country. We have a strong track record of recruiting and training New Americans of diverse race/ethnic backgrounds to run for public office. We also work with New American elected officials across the country who are at the frontlines of creating transformative policy environments for educational, economic and political equity.

 

Now, we are seeking a strategic and creative individual to join our team and develop a robust training initiative for our network of over 450 New Americans already serving in elected office.

 

 

Director of Public Leadership Programs

The Director will design and implement the new national program for elected officials. Drawing upon her/his knowledge of local and state policy and experience working with elected officials, the Director will create multi-faceted educational offerings and explore a membership program. The Director will report directly to the NALP President and work closely with team members managing our candidate training program.

 

You will be responsible for:

 

Program Development and Evaluation

  • Developing programs and events including an annual national conference, local leadership development in NALP's core states, and quarterly briefing calls.
  • Implementing the programs based on a yearlong calendar.
  • Partnering with NALP research fellows to establish metrics on the impact and value of the new initiative.
  • Working collaboratively as part of the NALP programs team.

 

 

 

Relationship Building

  • Initiating and maintaining relationships with local and national peer organizations and other influencers in the fields of democracy rights, immigration integration, and progressive policy advocacy.
  • Exploring development of network membership program.
  • Overseeing elected officials' mentorship of junior members and NALP training alumni.
  • Representing NALP at local and national events and via public speaking engagements.
  • Working closely with NALP development staff to support fundraising for the initiative.
  • Coordinating and staffing advisory committees.

 

Policy and Research

  • Helping to develop a policy platform in collaboration with NALP's senior team and elected officials.
  • Exploring and overseeing research that demonstrates members' policy and campaign activity to further NALP's mission.

 

Do you have:

  • Passion for serving immigrant communities and building a multiracial democracy.
  • A track record of working with elected officials and building networks.
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills and capacity to liaise with elected officials at all levels.
  • Excellent writing skills.
  • Creative and strategic perspective.
  • Outstanding attention to detail.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and complete visionary goals.
  • Willingness and availability to travel for work approximately once a month.
  • At least 5 years of relevant experience, including staff management.
  • Master's degree in a related field.
