Job Title: Labor Union Bargaining Director - Nursing Home Contracts

Location: Los Angeles, CA

 

Summary:

 

Nursing Home Bargaining Director develops the Union's Statewide strategies and programs for collective bargaining, industry standards, leadership development and education that align with the Local's Mission, Vision and Organizational Priorities. .

Who is SEIU Local 2015

 

SEIU Local 2015 is California's leading long term care organization dedicated to providing and protecting quality care for some of our most vulnerable residents. SEIU Local 2015 represents 325,000 home care providers, nursing home and assisted living workers throughout California, making it the largest union of long term care givers in California and the second largest SEIU local in the nation.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

 

· Develop Statewide Bargaining Standards and Campaign Strategies techniques to achieve those standards.

· Evaluate Employers for potential partnership and public campaign approaches.

· Represent the Union in Joint Boards and Trust Funds.

· Advise local officers on long term planning.

· The Bargaining Director will recommend to the local officers which bargaining demands have the potential to impact statewide standards.

· The Bargaining Director will coordinate with Regional Directors to select Employers for public campaigns to achieve the State-wide standards.

· The Bargaining Director will coordinate with Political and Policy Staff to assess State legislation and regulations that impact the NH industry.

· The Bargaining Director will develop and maintain relationships with Regional, Statewide and National Nursing Home Operators.

· The Bargaining Director will coordinate with the Leadership Empowerment Department and Regional Directors to develop leadership programs for Nursing Home worker leaders.

· Review State Council legislative and regulatory priorities as they impact NH industry.

· Monitor Ed Fund programs in the NH facilities and advise on adjustments.

· Work with lawyers and other vendors on project-related issues.

 

Qualifications:

 

· Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university or equivalent union leadership experience.

· Five or more years of experience working with unions and/or an understanding of their positions on worker issues.

· A passion for justice, a willingness to learn, the ability to work hard with irregular hours, and the ability to travel frequently.

· Ability to recommend programs to local wide officers.

· Ability to represent the local union in media, elected officials and employer dialogues.

· Ability to coordinate with multiple departments and programs. For example, Research, Regional Directors and Lead Internal Organizers

· Ability to motivate and lead worker leaders in bargaining situations.

· Ability to and experience in negotiating CBA's with NH operators.

· Ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures.

· Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; ability to make formal presentations.

· Ability to handle multiple projects and meet established timelines.

· Ability to learn unfamiliar substantive topic areas quickly.

 

Physical Requirements:

 

Long and extended hours and travel required. Work is generally performed in an office setting.

Scope and Nature of Supervision:

The qualified candidate will report to a Local Union Officer and/or his/her designee. NH Bargaining Director must work independently without day to day supervision.

The NH Bargaining Director must have a commitment to fulfill the objectives of the organization.
