Summary:


The Campaign Assistant will support the work of MomsRising's cross-program Technology Team, and its activities in the areas of member growth and engagement, digital communications, and online fundraising. The Campaign Assistant will work on cross-program campaigns and initiatives within the Technology Team, and issue-area specific campaigns as assigned. Initial areas of focus include the #KeepMarching program and gun safety campaigns. Will complete tasks and discrete projects as directed. Will assist in tasks designed to mobilize our million strong MomsRising membership and aligned organizations, grow our membership, and develop financial support for our campaigns.
 

About MomsRising:


MomsRising (www.momsrising.org) is a virtual organization with staff working around the country. We are a growing online and on-the-ground multicultural organization mobilizing the grassroots to advocate for families on a variety of important issues. We help people voice their support for legislation and culture change that support mothers and families in this country.

Our core team of paid staff and volunteers work collaboratively to develop our strategies and campaigns. As a virtual organization, we use conference calls, IM, and email extensively to communicate, to create, and to care for each other. Our team enjoys a results-oriented work environment where the challenges and joys of balancing work, family, and personal time are understood.

 

Essential Responsibilities


1.  Perform administrative, logistic and technology tasks as directed in order to deliver effective materials and messages for membership engagement and growth.

  • Assist in the implementation of technology functions, including loading, testing and sending alerts; creating memes and visuals for social media, rapid response and fundraising; updating membership records; creating and updating content for web pages; posting social media; organizing and maintaining content calendars; loading mobile actions; and helping test and integrate new technology tools.
  • Gather information from across the organization to support technology team reporting needs. Assist in collecting data, narratives, fiscal information and offering clerical support in the grant-making and reporting process, as well as other reports and projects as requested.  
  • Monitor, organize, and help to update-as-needed the story banks.
  • Curate and maintain an independent, easily accessible resource of top key stories by issue areas.

 

2.  Interact with and respond to members to grow and intensify engagement with MomsRising. 

  • Monitor feedback channels (info@momsrising.org and Facebook), responding to and/or forwarding member and other messages as appropriate; help administer #KeepMarching FB group; organize video conferences, telephone townhalls and other events; draft copy for community alerts and updates as directed. 
  • Occasionally represent MomsRising at member-organized on-the-ground events; work with staff and volunteers to help in planning, set-up, logistics, activities and clean-up of on-the-ground events.
  • May occasionally represent the organization in limited capacity at special events under the approval and direction of supervisor.  

 

3.  Observe the work of MomsRising campaign teams to learn the process of strategic campaign development and delivery.  

  • Participate in MomsRising team meetings to understand the creative multi-voices approach to building and implementing campaign strategies that effectively leverage online and offline on-the-ground tactics, both traditional and creative. 
  • Contribute to the development of campaign materials as requested.   
  • Contribute ideas that help to facilitate creative and high impact deliveries of member messages, signatures, and stories. This might include helping to collect member stories and/or helping members learn how to best tell their stories publicly.  
  • Listen in and offer occasional ideas in conference calls with partner organizations as appropriate to help plan for collaborative message development and design of campaign tactics. 

 

4.  Assist in the planning and delivery of effective campaign materials.  

  • Facilitate culturally competent approaches for further engagement with communities of color as appropriate.  
  • Provide clerical support in developing and delivering materials.
  • Provide proofreading help as requested.    

 

5.  Actively work to support the mission of MomsRising.  

  • Suggest ideas to supervisor about opportunities to move MomsRising forward, grow the membership and volunteer base, as well as the audience.
  • Work with supervisor to act on these opportunities as directed.  
  • Participate in fundraising and marketing activities as directed.  

 

6.  Other duties as assigned.  

 

Qualifications:

  • 1-2 years experience working in a related field or interest and knowledge of campaign focus area.  
  • Experience and/or interest in organizing communities to act for causes related to the mission of MomsRising.  
  • Self-directed independent worker who can look at the big picture while keeping track of details.  
  • Skill in working with a team and taking direction.  
  • Comfortable working as part of a virtual organization.
  • Flexible and willing to do what it takes to make the campaigns successful.
  • Proficiency in email communications is critical.
  • Graphic design skills highly desirable.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience with social media (Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest) and blogging.

 

Working conditions

This is a virtual job with no physical office. Incumbent will work in own home and communicate with coworkers through technology. Hours are flexible with some evening and weekend hours required.  

 

Physical requirements

Must be able to work at a desk for blocks of time. Must be able to communicate verbally. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to move objects/operate keyboards, reach with hands and arms, speak and hear.
