Purpose

The Operations Coordinator manages the day-to-day operations of the organization, ensuring all employees have the materials, equipment, resources, etc. they need to do their jobs. S/he coordinates community requests for presentations and participates in Management meetings. The Operation Coordinator makes proper accommodations and changes to support our organization's growth, as well as develops and adjusts organization's policies and procedures as needed.


Organizational Description:  The vision of the Heartland Workers Center's (HWC) is to build a community that works for all.  We work toward this vision by promoting leadership development, workers' rights, and civic engagement through legal information sharing, training, and organizing.

 

DUTIES

      Leadership and Management

1.     In partnership with the management team, recruit, hire, develop, retrain, inspire, and motivate a diverse and high performing support staff team.  Also, help with the onboarding of all new hires.

2.     Compile any needed data in the form of memorandums or reports.

3.     Participate in management meetings that are aimed at introducing new staff and office policies when appropriate.

4.     Monitor support staff (including volunteers and interns) and delegate work duties.

5.     Coordinate educational visits and presentations.

6.     Regularly assess the effectiveness of the organization's programs and identify new opportunities to increase the capacity of the organization to more effectively focus its efforts on leadership development and community organizing, and help to implement these opportunities.

7.     Work regularly across the community, county, and state, establishing key positive partnerships and representing the organization.

8.     Engage in community education on immigrant, voting, and workers rights.

      Operations

1.     Manage the non-organizing day-to-day operations.

2.     Maintain and enhance the organization's human resources by planning, implementing, and evaluating employee relations and human resources policies, programs, and practices.

3.     Contribute to the development and implementation of organizational strategies, policies, and practices, including staff training.

4.     In coordination with Senior Organizers, implement strategic plans to increase organizational efficiency and effectiveness.

5.     Drive initiatives in the management team and organizationally that contribute to long-term operational excellence.

6.     Translate documents as needed.

      Grant Management

1.     Manage specific grant projects as needed

2.     Coordinate evaluation practices for program creation, implementation, and impact.

      Other Program needs

1.     Provide necessary support for civic engagement and workers rights programs.

2.     Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications:

1.     Strong passion for and commitment to the mission of the HWC.

2.     Strong desire and openness to learn and understand the principles of organizing for one's personal growth.

3.     Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to work with people from various socio-demographic (religious, ethnic, racial, economic) backgrounds.

4.     Strong listening skills.

5.     Excellent professional and interpersonal skills, including community building and public speaking skills.

6.     Strong ability to take initiative.

7.     Capacity to take initiative.

8.     Ability to think critically and strategically and be practical. 

9.     Superb organizational skills, including the ability to manage different projects, develop next steps, and work with deadlines.

10.  Ability to communicate in English (written and spoken) well.  Spanish language proficiency is required.

11.  Maintain valid driver's license and provide valid insurance.

12.  Ability to maintain a flexible schedule and work some evenings and weekend, when necessary

13.  Skills to use Microsoft Office

14.  Bachelor's degree in business management or 4 years of relevant experience.

 

Supervision:

This position is supervised primarily by the Lead Organizer.

 

Compensation

This full-time exempt position provides a competitive nonprofit salary based on experience and education and includes benefits (paid sick and vacation time; health, vision, and dental insurance and 403b plan) as defined in the Heartland Workers Center Personnel Handbook.
