Digital Associate - Abortion Rights Communications Project

Progress North Carolina


Position Purpose:


Progress North Carolina seeks a digital communicator to serve as Digital Associate in a non-profit communications organization focused on promoting progressive values and issues and holding public officials accountable in North Carolina.


The Digital Associate will serve on a team dedicated to promoting the value of "abortion out loud" in North Carolina. Abortion out loud is a specific messaging strategy that promotes abortion as a societal good and works to dismantle historic stigma associated with the procedure.  They will report directly to the Director of Reproductive Advocacy, and will help develop long-term digital strategies and manage and produce reproductive rights-related online content for the Progress North Carolina websites, email, and social media networks.


The Digital Associate will also assist the Digital Director on projects in service to Progress NC/Progress NC Action's broader mission.


Organizational Summary:

Progress North Carolina is a 501(c)3 non-profit progressive communications hub which provides a unified, research-driven voice for progressive groups on the issues which matter most to North Carolinians.


With aggressive traditional and online media strategies, Progress NC works to promote progressive values and issues with communications campaigns which are assertive, creative, and credible. Progress NC Action is an affiliated 501(c)4 social welfare organization committed to holding public officials accountable.


The reproductive rights project is a two-year grant funded project, which allows Progress NC to work in concert with fellow grantees across the state in order to promote pro-abortion messaging through news media, social media, and other messaging strategies.

Essential Functions:

  • Manage abortion-related social media accounts.

  • Manage Progress NC's SMS program

  • Work with Director of Reproductive Advocacy to design and implement abortion-related online campaigns and communications

  • Produce written web content and create graphics that communicate pro-abortion message and reach diverse audiences

  • Analyze success of SMS campaigns, digital strategies, and other communications, and advise on new strategy implementation

  • Provide digital support to abortion coalition organizations

  • Stay abreast of new media technology, abortion messaging, and other best practices in the digital advocacy world

  • Provide audiovisual support-- videography, photography, Facebook Live-- at press conferences and other events

  • Other duties as assigned.


Qualifications


Required

  • Strong belief in abortion as a societal good

  • Ability to work creatively and independently

  • Professional experience working with social media platforms

  • Drive to focus on metrics-based analysis and decision-making

  • Interest in and knowledge of reproductive justice, economic justice, and racial equity

  • Experience creating visually compelling graphics for production on web, social media, and print

  • Strong oral and written communication skills

  • Willingness to follow research-tested message discipline


Preferred

  • Familiarity with Google Analytics, ActionKit, NationBuilder, Facebook Business Manager, Mobile Commons, Hustle, Wordpress, Adobe Suite, Tweetdeck, HiFi

  • Experience building digital ad campaigns in Facebook

  • Online media coding - HTML, CSS, and any other coding languages

  • Knowledge of SMS campaign management

  • Experience producing web and print materials


Benefits

Salary range: $35K-$42K annually plus two weeks paid time off, ten paid holidays, medical and dental insurance, and family-friendly and flexible work schedules.
