The Virginia Conservation Network (VCN) seeks a committed and motivated individual to build public support for climate and clean energy policies through education and outreach.
Climate change is one of the most pressing issues of our time, especially when it comes to its devastating impacts on Virginia's most vulnerable communities. Virginia's are already feeling the impacts of climate change, from rising seas in Hampton Roads to unhealthy air quality days in Richmond and Northern Virginia. That is why it is imperative that every level of government steps up to be a part of the solution. The Climate and Clean Energy Campaign Organizer will work with our Policy & Campaign Manager to build public support for action on climate and investment in clean energy.
About VCN:
Founded as the Conservation Council of Virginia in 1969, VCN began as a roundtable of major conservation groups and has grown to include over 100 Network Partners across the Commonwealth and a full-time staff of five. VCN is committed to building a powerful, diverse and highly-coordinated conservation movement focused on protecting our Commonwealth's natural resources today and for tomorrow. VCN is the state affiliate for the National Wildlife Federation.
About the Position:
VCN seeks to build public support for action on climate and investment in clean energy. The organizer will build a broad network across the Commonwealth in support of climate and clean energy while meeting advocacy goals that lead to tangible victories.
The outreach coordinator is responsible for:
• Identifying, educating, and mobilizing VCN's Network Partners and members of the public on the need to act on
climate and support clean energy policies.
• Recruiting support from the conservation community and other key constituencies in order to influence target
decision-makers
• Generate opinion and non-opinion media about the need to act on climate and support clean energy in target
media outlets
• Regularly engage decision makers, elected officials, and their offices
• Participate in regularly in-person and phone planning meetings
• Regularly and accurately report on work and deliverables
Qualifications:
• Demonstrated experience in community organizing
• A passion for the environment and climate action
• Strong written and oral communication skills
• Demonstrated ability to work well independently and outside of an office setting
• Ability and willingness to work occasional weekend or evening hours for special events
Location:
Richmond, Virginia. Some travel required.
Compensation:
Nonprofit salary commensurate with experience; and generous benefits package.
