California YIMBY is a new statewide advocacy organization working to pass legislation to end California's housing shortage by empowering and growing the YIMBY movement.

 

California YIMBY is seeking a Finance and Operations Director to join our leadership team.  Reporting to the CEO, the Finance and Operations Director will build the internal organization processes and infrastructure that will allow California YIMBY to grow and fulfill its mission. 

 

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

·       Successful candidate will believe in and embody the core values of California YIMBY, be driven by its mission and demonstrate passion for the organization.

·       Personal qualities of integrity, transparency, honesty, inclusion, collaboration.  Curiosity and a strong sense of humor.  Fire, but no drama.  Entrepreneurial spirit and a great work ethic.

·       3+ years working at a leadership level, with broad experience in operational and financial management, systems development, financial analysis and reporting.

·       Experience in/knowledge of human resources, IT, Business & Legal.

·       Experience building an organization and demonstrated ability developing the capacity of a driven, bright, diverse team, and the processes that ensure the organization runs smoothly.

·       Resourceful and hands on, delivering the highest productivity possible with limited resources.

·       Self-starter who takes the initiative to commence projects, work unsupervised, complete tasks independently, solve roadblocks, anticipate and address issues before they become problems.

·       Ability to work successfully with a variety of personalities in a highly collaborative environment; love of working as part of a team.  As a charter member of our core leadership, engage with other department heads to help build the organization as a whole.

·       Creative and adaptive, can work calmly and effectively in a highly fluid environment and under intense schedules and deadlines, while also driving toward clarity and solutions.

·       Bottom-line orientation: demonstrated ability to set priorities, make sound decisions through a combination of analysis, wisdom and judgment, and challenge all assumptions.

 

WHAT YOU'LL DO

Operations

·       Apply acumen and experience to the operational management of the organization through a broad and deep knowledge of all departments and programs.

·       Working with CEO, prepare and submit an annual operational budget, manage effectively within this budget, and report accurately on progress made and challenges encountered.

·       Business and legal:  oversee vendor contracts, leases, and other legal documents and agreements; manage insurance broker relationship and policy.

·       Facilities and IT:  manage facilities and purchasing functions to ensure smooth daily operations, and oversee ongoing maintenance and upgrading of information systems and infrastructure, including hardware and software.

·       Human Resources:

·       Hiring:  talent recruitment, interviewing and hiring processes, regulatory oversight, legal compliance

·       Benefits administration and oversight

·       Staff training on tools, policies and procedures, including new hire onboarding

·       Professional development, performance evaluation and retention strategies

Finance

·       Manage and oversee financial and business planning activities, including:

·       Plan, coordinate and execute the annual budget process in conjunction with CEO

  • Coordinate and lead annual audit process, liaise with external auditors and the finance committee of the board of directors

·       Oversee and evaluate business policies and accounting practices, including the continuous review and improvement of appropriate policies, internal controls, accounting standards, and procedural systems

  • Analyze and present financial reports in an accurate and timely manner; clearly communicate monthly and annual financial statements; oversee all financial, project/program and grants accounting.

·       Manage cash flow planning and forecasting; ensure availability of funds as needed

·       Develop, negotiate and maintain all financial and professional services relationships

·       Advise senior management on financial planning, budgeting, cash flow and policy matters.

·       Responsible for overseeing that all nonprofit governance requirements are followed

·       Ensure relevant financial data is presented to the CEO, leadership team and Board of Directors.

 

COMPENSATION

Salary range of $70,000 to $85,000, plus a full range of employment benefits including medical, dental, vision, 401k with employer match, paid vacation and sick days.
