Communications Director - The Fairness Project
Description
The Fairness Project (TFP) is taking on our broken economy and our broken political system by going straight to voters using ballot initiatives to make significant gains for working people in America. We combine the best of nonprofit-start-ups and political campaigns with immediate impact on people's lives. In our first two years, during the 2016 campaign cycle, TFP harnessed the power of ballot initiatives to raise the minimum wage for more than 8 million workers and their families. In 2017, we helped win health care for over 70,000 people in Maine by expanding Medicaid through Question 2.
We're just getting started. In future cycles, TFP will work in even more states and cities to support an expanded set of issues that address economic inequality, including preserving health care coverage for millions of people.
To grow our impact, TFP seeks a talented and entrepreneurial Communications Director. The Communications Director will play a critical role in developing and disseminating The Fairness Project's messaging for ballot initiative campaigns with our in-state partners, while also driving a strong national narrative on the issues of economic fairness.
A successful candidate will drive winning messaging campaigns for the 2018 cycle, while also positioning The Fairness Project for long-term success in future cycles.

Mindset and Working-Style
How we think about the world and approach challenges is often more important than what we've done in the past. In addition to the requirements listed above, the ideal candidate has:
- An impact and outcomes orientation and a willingness to quantify and report on results;
- A willingness to take risks and learn from mistakes is required (and encouraged);
- Curiosity and creativity are critical, excellence in organization is a must;
- A sense of discipline and determination in executing on short and long-term goals;

- Ability to work well with others, and a passion for building support, partnership, and community around economic fairness and impact.
The ideal candidate is an incredible writer and loves to learn, improvise, experiment, and define the cutting-edge; is wildly curious and studies and "steals" best practices from campaigns, organizations and corporations; enjoys the thrill of advocacy or campaign work; and is passionate about improving people's lives by fighting against economic inequality in America.
