Strategic Communications
Principal Responsibilities
The Strategic Communications role helps develop and execute the overall communications strategy for EMILY's List.
Specific Duties
- Work collaboratively with communications team to identify new opportunities for organizational and leadership promotion;
- Respond strategically to news of the day for maximum exposure and advise on organizational response to news stories;
- Plan and anticipate news cycle for maximum coverage;
- Pitch, prepare and staff senior leadership for on-the-record interviews and events as needed;
- Proactively develop and manage relationships with media in key markets and outlets;
- Develop and orchestrate EMILY's List press events;
- Draft external materials including: statements, press releases, press notes, memos;
- Develop and assist in booking, pitching process within the organization;
- Serve as on-record spokesperson as needed;
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Ability to communicate effectively and write quickly and in a compelling manner;
- Energetic ability to multitask and manage projects in a fast-paced and changeable environment; willingness to invest multiple teams and stakeholders in communications efforts;
- Ability to coach and support candidates and campaigns on their communications strategy;
- Talent at pitching stories to both new and known reporters and placing op-eds and editorials;
- Effective on the record spokesperson;
- Ability to use multiple mediums and approaches including new media to create multi-faced and effective campaigns;
- Commitment to electing pro-choice Democratic women;
- Commitment to the diversity of our candidates, membership, partners, and staff;
- Experienced manager of people and processes;
- Campaign experience a plus;
- Salary and title commensurate with experience.
