Freedom For All Massachusetts is the campaign to preserve transgender nondiscrimination protections at the ballot in the 2018 election, has an immediate opening for a full time Regional Canvass Director to grow and support a canvass program to defeat the discriminatory 2018 ballot initiative that would eliminate public accommodations nondiscrimination protections for transgender Bay Staters.
-- As the first and currently only statewide ballot referendum on transgender rights, all eyes are on Massachusetts as Bay Staters vote on keeping nondiscrimination protections for transgender people. These protections were passed by the legislature in 2016, and almost immediately after signatures were filed to send the law to the ballot. Bay Staters must vote yes to send the message that we will stand with transgender people.
Our Paid Canvass program is an essential piece of the campaign to defend transgender equality. This role will recruit, hire, train, and manage a team of 10-20 Canvassers in Springfield, MA to talk to voters about what it means to be transgender and why these protections are so important. The ideal candidate has experience working on at least one electoral campaign and some experience in managing staff. They should be organized and able to manage large remote teams, including knowledge of administrative and logistical needs. They will coordinate the canvass by developing and maintaining tracking systems and reporting directly to the Field Director.
Qualified candidates will have the ability to work independently, develop organizational systems, implement clear goals, and provide detailed tracking and regular reporting of progress. All applicants should have a clear commitment to supporting LGBT issues, including an understanding of the importance of nondiscrimination legislation and issues specific to the transgender community.
Qualifications
- Minimum one cycle experience working on public education, advocacy or electoral campaigns
- Minimum one cycle working on or managing a paid canvassing operation
- Experience managing large staff teams
- Experience writing and implementing written organizing plans with clear goals
- Experience providing detailed reporting and tracking
- Familiarity with VAN, Excel and Google documents desired
Other Requirements:
- Ability to work independently and meet goals and deadlines.
- Ability to work flexible hours and meet a demanding campaign schedule
- Reliable access to a car for statewide transportation
