This position reports to the Deputy Executive Director and is responsible for coordinating the work of Generations United's National Center on Grandfamilies and collaborating with the public policy team to manage the public policy initiatives for Generations United.

Essential Functions, Duties, and Responsibilities include the following:

  • Coordinate engagement of Generations United's network of grassroots grandfamilies caregiver advocates.
  • Assist with event logistics at conferences and training events.
  • Respond to inquiries about intergenerational public policy issues and requests from grandfamilies.
  • Create and disseminate a quarterly grandfamilies newsletter.
  • Assist with coordinating regular meetings of the advisory group on grandfamilies.
  • Help develop training materials and content for presentations on issues related to grandfamilies.
  • Compile and update national data about grandfamilies.
  • Compile and coordinate sharing of research and resources related to grandfamilies.
  • Research and help write fact sheets, articles and briefs on public policy issues and grandfamilies.
  • Provide support to Generations United's Public Policy Committee.
  • Provide research and expertise to policymakers and their staff.
  • Assist with maintaining public policy and grandfamilies listservs and web pages.
  • Attend and report back on relevant Capitol Hill briefings, hearings and coalition meetings; coordinate Hill briefings and Generations United's general public policy education efforts.
  • Collaborate with other GU directors, managers and program coordinators on activities related to grandfamilies.
  • Maintain Generations United's intergenerational program database.
  • Collaborate with program staff on projects related to intergenerational programs as needed.
  • Assist with increasing Generations United's exposure through blogs, twitter and other social media.
  • Other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.   • Bachelor's degree in related field required
  • Minimum of two years experience in public policy and/or issues affecting grandparents and other relatives raising children preferred
  • Experience in coordinating logistics related to event planning
  • Strong interest in working on issues affecting older adults and children.
  • Ability to adapt and respond in a rapidly changing environment.
  • Excellent computer skills and proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and use of the Internet.
  • Excellent Research and Analytical Skills – must be able to research and analyze complex policy issues and information accurately and efficiently.
  • Excellent Communication and Customer Service Skills – must be able to communicate effectively in writing and editing for advocacy communications, work in a team environment. Good interpersonal skills.
  • Sound and accurate judgment and strong professional ethics which include approaching others in a tactful manner; reacting well under pressure; treating others with respect and consideration regardless of their status or position
  • Ability to work independently in fast-paced office, some flexible hours, and travel may be required.

Salary and Benefits: Salary in the upper 30's. Benefits include health, dental, vision and life insurance.
