Position: Communications Assistant

Reports to: Communications Director, Equity Forward
Position Summary Equity Forward, a watchdog project of the Hopewell Fund, seeks a Communications Assistant to help fulfill our mission of ensuring transparency and accountability among anti-reproductive health groups and individuals who are actively working to deny people access to services. The Communications Associate will assist the Communications Director in developing, coordinating and communicating to the news media, the public, and partner organizations on our research driven campaigns designed to hold accountable anti-reproductive health care forces.
The Communications Assistant will be a key member of the communications team. This position requires incredible attention to detail, solid written and verbal communication skills, and superior organizational abilities. A flexible personality and positive attitude are also important.
This position is based in New York, New York. Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience.
Essential Responsibilities and Tasks
● Monitor opportunities to advance EF's values and positions;
● Prepare and distribute daily press clips;
● Build and maintain press lists;
● Assist Communications Director in distribution of press releases, op-eds, memos, talking points, and other materials as needed;
● Distribute mass emails, press releases, and posts materials online;
● Update websites, blog posts, and other digital mediums;
● Assist Communications Director in production of detailed reports of project activities;
● Perform other duties, as required.
Preferred Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Ability
● Bachelor's degree or commensurate experience;
● Minimum experience of one year in communications, public relations, or advocacy;
● Political campaign, issue advocacy, and strategic experience preferred;
● Basic understanding of reproductive rights, health and justice issues;
● Excellent writing skills; writing should be concise, sharp, and memorable.
● Detail-oriented with an ability to work independently and juggle competing priorities and strict deadlines;
● Calm in a crisis, with great instincts;
● Comfortable working with remote colleagues;
● Basic graphic design and website development skills a plus;
● Passionate about an individual's right to make their own reproductive health care decisions free from political interference.
