The Doug Jones for Senate Campaign seeks communications staff for the 2020 election. These roles will span Communications Assistant to Deputy Communications Director, depending on skills and experience.


This will be one of the most competitive Senate races in the country in 2020 and we're looking for a talented and energetic communications professionals ready to work with a team and help us take advantage of digital, press opportunities across many different channels. We are assembling a diverse team and value demonstrated talent and commitment.


These are full-time positions based out of Birmingham, Alabama through the 2020 election.


The core responsibilities of these staffers include:


  • Implementing long-term communications strategy in concert with senior campaign staff

  • Taking advantage of rapid-response opportunities in the news cycle for media and fundraising

  • Drafting communications for website, social media, press releases, op-eds, letters-to-the-editor, and other communication channels

  • Ensuring message continuity across all communication channels

  • Fielding press requests and placing stories in local and national publications

  • Creating visual assets like social media share graphics, short videos, etc

  • Securing press coverage of events and rallies

  • Taking high-quality photo and video of campaign rallies and events

  • Travel to document in-state and national initiatives

  • Developing relationships with reporters and press nationally and in the states

  • Monitoring and tracking local and national press for relevant stories and developments

  • Other tasks as assigned and necessary

  • Based in Alabama or willing to relocate upon hire


The ideal candidates will have some combination of the following:


  • Experience in political communication or equivalent experience for a political, non-profit, or advocacy group

  • Experience directly developing and implementing communications strategies, particularly campaign communications and earned media

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Understanding of photo/graphic editing software such as Photoshop or similar

  • Ability to create video assets

  • Experience taking high-quality photos and videos at events

  • Familiarity with social media tactics and execution

  • Basic familiarity with NGP VAN preferred

  • Ability to prioritize multiple competing tasks and manage rapid response as necessary

  • The ability to pitch in on diverse projects and pick up new skills quickly
