The Leadership Conference Education Fund builds public will for federal, state, and local policies that promote and protect the civil and human rights of all persons in the United States. The Education Fund's campaigns inform, educate, empower and mobilize leaders and advocates around the country to push for progressive change in the United States.
Summary:
The Policy Assistant plays a role in advancing civil rights and social justice policy for the nation and will be exposed to the most broad-based civil rights coalition in the country. This position performs several administrative, technical support, and substantive tasks in support of the Policy Department, the Executive Vice President for Policy and Government Affairs, and the Managing Director of Policy. This is an entry-level position.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Support the EVP for Policy and Government Affairs (40%): The Policy Assistant will manage the EVP's calendar, handle credit card reports and reimbursements, maintain contact lists, and other tasks as needed.
Support the Policy Department (30%): The Policy Assistant will schedule and provide logistical support for internal and external meetings, manage listservs, update contracts, and finalize and send letters. The Policy Assistant will perform research and aid in the development of materials, including fact sheets, talking points, blog posts, and other documents. The Policy Assistant will also compile the organization's lobby disclosure report as well as hold responsibility for the recruitment and onboarding of legal interns.
Support issue-based teams (20%): Similar to their functions in the department, the Policy Assistant will provide logistical and substantive support to one or more issue-based teams.
Support the organization (10%): The Policy Assistant will provide logistical support to the organization as a whole, including backup coverage for other assistants, associates, and the receptionist when need be.
Skills and Qualifications:
- A Bachelor's degree.
- Experience in civil rights advocacy, the Hill, or a related field preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft applications, and internet research.
- A commitment to civil rights.
- Well-developed interpersonal skills and the desire and ability to work with diverse groups of people.
- Ability to balance multiple tasks, manage a complex workload, and organize time efficiently.
- Strong written and verbal skills.
- A robust attention to detail.
Reports to: The Managing Director of Policy
