Job Title: Director of Government Affairs for the Marine Engineers' Beneficial Association AFL-CIO
Reports to: President and Secretary Treasurer
Job Overview:
Systematically build and maintain relationships with Members of Congress, their staff, and key governmental officials in a bipartisan fashion in order to advance the priorities of the Union. The Director of Government Affairs will coordinate with internal and external union representatives as well as company agents to develop cohesive political and legislative priorities. Salary commensurate with experience.
Responsibilities and Duties:
· Develop and carry out a political contribution strategy including PAC fundraising
· Host and attend political fundraisers
· Draft legislative materials including white papers, hearing testimony, press statements, position papers, and updates for union publications
· Represent the Union at industry meetings
· Assist with other matters important to the Union
Qualifications:
· Postsecondary education
· Working knowledge of the federal legislative process
· Familiar with PAC strategies and reporting requirements
· Understanding of union structure a plus
