Harta Communications, a startup progressive communications firm, is seeking a smart, comprehensive communications associate wanting to get in on the ground floor of something special.


The firm already has a book of exciting established clients who are working to reform and safeguard American democracy while challenging the Trump administration and its collaborators across all issue areas and on every communications platform. We are seeking to fill one associate position, and are looking for a strategist who isn't afraid to do things differently while still utilizing traditional and digital forms of media.


The position will require an individual who understands that we've entered a new era of political communications in this country, and the tactics that we've employed for a generation to influence voters and compel them to action simply aren't working anymore. Yes, there will be press releases to write and op-eds to place, but this firm is looking to move its clients past a press-centric public relations model. We want to make sure that progressive messaging is put directly into the hands of the people who need to hear it, that it is written in a way that people will emotionally connect with it and that they will feel compelled to take those messages and communicate them back to their friends, relatives and neighbors.


Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the client manager on various projects, responsible for working directly with principals and partners to craft and execute innovative communications plans.

  • Work with junior associates, principals and partners to draft written materials for the firm's clients including press releases, blog posts, op-eds, speeches, media advisories, client emails, social media content and general talking points

  • Develop, propose, and execute digital advertisement

  • Work with and support communicators from different states and backgrounds, helping them advance agendas in ways that match the values of their community and target demographic.

  • Develop metrics of success on a case-by-case basis to help judge effectiveness of communications efforts

  • Serve as a point of contact with other consultants and pollsters to ensure that teams remain on message and the right messaging gets tested

  • Interface with national organizing tables as a strategic partner in advancing movement-wide goals

  • Oversee communications consultants in states supporting national work and advise them on an ongoing basis

  • Interface directly with press and pitch stories, serve as an on the record and on background contact for press on various projects and help advance organizations' visibility goals through generating earned media

  • Cultivate strong relationships with members of the press, progressive activists, and partners


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent writing and interpersonal communication skills, including a proficient use of grammar and punctuation

  • Familiarity with advertising platforms, especially Facebook and Google, and a working understanding of the mechanics and metrics of paid advertising –including, its strengths and weaknesses

  • Ability to move message on Twitter and engage with reporters and other influencers

  • At ease under pressure and with tight deadlines

  • Able to handle numerous projects at the same time and work independently

  • Understands how to write for different audiences and can easy synthesize and communicate complex material

  • Ability to ensure consistency and adapt messages based on the platform and mode of communication

  • Commitment to progressive values

  • Well-organized, attentive to detail, and able to listen to clients and effectively get them what they need

  • Software: MS Office Suite; some familiarity to a Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software

  • Familiarity with a graphic design software is a must (InDesign or Photoshop, for example)

  • Familiarity with WordPress is a must

  • Willingness to travel, as needed

  • Competitive candidates will have at least one election cycle of political experience.


Starting salary for this position is $52,000 per year.
